"There is glamour inside...."

"This is a place of renewal and cleansing... if she broke it first to break the link.. then maybe something..." Clem nods

"Exactly....."

(to Zara's observation)

"...aye..."

"Now, the Balor will hate us..." Wry.

"Oh noes" earl mutters under his breath in a falsetto

"Pretty sure they hate us anyway. Me, at least. Did I hear Usurpress? Is that even a word?"

"Kind of makes you proud I bet, someone pulling a word out of their nethers just to try to besmirch you" Clem says after pondering it

"Not really. Proud, that is. Puzzled, maybe but... doesn't seem much to be proud of."

"Modesty IS one of your virtues" Clem says "Now, back to this idea..."

"Yeah..." she shifts and tightens her grip on the staff. ".... just... break it and put it in the water."

"Well... something protective, so no arts may strike from outside, nor eyes scry..."

The troll takes the staff in -both- hands now, fists tightening.

Zara fishes out a piece of chalk and quickly draws a circle around the trolls and one of the pools. Hasty runes of protection!

Always a good idea

Jessica watches this work with a frown. "Will I need that?"

"Better safe than sorry," Clem suggests

Jessica gives a shrugging nod and snaps the staff in half, bending it in her hands till it breaks.

And for a moment it seems like it will not break...but finally...SNAP!

And Jessica sees a flash of an image.. a bedraggled sidhe woman crying out in pain. Her face, her face Jessica knows... Rathbone! This was meant to aid her... and now instead.. pain, however brief.. and then that tie severed.

Glamour flows and flickers

She dumps the pieces into the water. There might be a small smile on her lips when she does.

Green flames dance along the waters, as Fenix herself pipes the healing and restoration energies into it... oh even here...Jessica helps... the hold seems to search through her mind for ideas and more...

and then, with the most artful burned designs upon them... it comes up, not in two pieces, but many... and smooth... and hollow?

Wooden wind chimes! Each with the mark of a fiery bird consuming a black serpent

Her eyes go wide as the chimes rise to the surface. "Um."

And yet through the balefire, she feels a bit worn out, but also like celebrating. Treating herself ... a nice long hot bath, a good drink, or a pampering at the hands of a handsome fellow.

Which is not the sort of thing that comes to Jessic'as mind so it's clearly the Balefire feeling something has been accomplished

Now she looks -internally- baffled.

"Jessica? Are you okay?" Clem asks

"Um...." she wades back in and rescues the chimes "... I think so."

"How peculiar..." Zara approves.

She examines them.

She can feel them as if they're part of the hold... but she's not sure what they do, besides clatter pleasantly. The Carving style was perhaps shaped by her memory, for it looks a bit like Brekke's work except Brekke doesn't normally burn patterns on wood

Zara feels a bit tired. Did that thing steal her protection runes? Well.. borrow?

Head-tilt.

Her runes are gone! Why that sneaky little...

"I think.... I should take these to the Balefire, see what it does. And get some dry clothes."

"And... find out if I have anything else going on today."

Earl eyes Zara, "Honey are you okay?"

She looks up. "Zara, thank you. I mean it. Renaissance is in debt to you."

Clem stares at the water, fascinated.. running her fingers through it then rises

"I... could I perchance beg a couch?"

"A couch?"

"Or cot..."

"Would a guest room do?"

"Yes, please, a guest room" earl says suddenly fussing over Zara

Jessica nods. "I'll speak with Maria."

A room is quickly arranged.
