A new morning, and shortly before Ten, Jaymes is seen with three poles, a tacklebox, and a henry blake hat.

10:00...

10:15....

He waits, making sure bait is fresh, and the snacks are safely sealed

And does, yes, peek out the door quite often

10:30...

A frown, and he goes outside.

No signs of life outside... just trees and rocks...

He puts up a note with a map on it to the door, "GONE FISHING" and heads off.

As he goes, he sighs "think she would have enjoyed it."

And... on the path, golden eyes watch him head away from the lodge.

"...Wait?"

He turns, startled, "Geez... sorry, kid. I didn't even ... maybe I didn't have enough coffee this morning." He nods, "Good you made it."

Dag usually looks stoic, but today she's a visible bundle of nerves. She's not dressed in any special way - the same mundane jeans and beaten-up sneakers. T-shirt, hoodie, all covered despite the warming May weather. Her nordic voile is the same. "I... hey."

"Hey. " He answers back, "trouble with the browns?"

"Had to go to church..."

"Ah," Realization, "I forget about that. Not a church going man myself."

"Church sucks."

"Well, I think the stained glass can be lovely, if I can say so without sounding too girly. Your church got stained glass?"

"They don't. They're Presbyterians."

"Sounds like a skin condition" He says "Well, you ready to go? And, where's your friend?"

"I dunno." She looks back down the path.

"Presbyterians are nicer than Baptists. Kind of boring. Catholics and Lutherans have the prettiest churches. Mormons are weird."

"Episcopalians have stained glass, too."

"Huh, neat, you're kind of like a source of information regarding the various breeds of Christians. the working group, the sporting group, the hound group" Deadpan

That earns a short laugh, chipping away at the brittle layer of nerves. "Yeah, I guess so."

"I was with a Pentecostal family, once. They speak in tongues and shake."

"Sounds like a condition"

"Kinda, yeah. I got in trouble for laughing at it, though. They take it real serious."

She chews on her thumb, looking around. "We gonna go? There's a map... his stepmom might be, like, buying him hip-waders.."

"Yeah, he can follow the map, come on," he will start walking, long strides, not to be a jerk, he probably just is used to that

Dagmar follows - while smaller than the grump, she's got a respectable stride and can keep up.

"now, we have an actual ship, so lake or sea fishing is possible sometime. But for now, it's okay? I know this stream. NOt easy to get to, but worth it"

"Fishing on a ship?"

"sure, how do you think Sailors do it? of course, sea fishing often has bigger catches. "

"Well, I mean... me, on a boat." She shrugs. "The Kowalskis had a boat, but I wasn't allowed to go."

"Well, I can tell you that if you plan on sea fishing while walking on water, I'm going to seriously reconsider not going to church because obviously there are some serious benefits"

Another laugh, and the smile lingers a bit longer. "Yeah."

the path starts on ways she knows- she's been through these woods, but soon, he is leading her under a branch (Yes they have to hunch) to one she hasn't noticed. It's.. like a secret and that's a thrill

Dag does fall behind a bit, slowing down as she takes in the unfamiliar path - she's all eyes, trying to capture the spring blooms and darting bright birds for posterity.

Some asshole bluejay is giving a red cardinal grief. But darrn if they aren't both pretty

She jogs a bit, catching up to Jaymes before, yes, falling behind again.

He slows his pace, but only a little. Okay, she doesn't know what type of flower this is, but it's got the same shade as her trollish skin. the exact same!

Blunt fingertips graze the petals, oh-so-carefully.

It's a quiet walk, but in that companiable silence, her rime of nerves seemingly recedes to nothingness.

And down they go along the trail. A sound, rushing water! And , then, with the sound, a sight, a wide but quick stream location with rocky places to sit comfortable. while the water spikes white here and there, there are also calmer more buffered pools.
