Emerson is not at the club, but rather at home. CC is out shopping, and would have invited him, but she mentioned something about picking up some surprises for him. This means she'll bring new nightwear to delight him with. Of course, he adores her in any outfit, but she does have a flare for showing off, and it makes her happy..

The boggan putters around, preparing a light meal.

A knock at the door makes him glad he's not cooking anything complex.

He puts down the bowl and spoon, wipes his hands on the towel and (leaving the apron on) goes to check who's at the door before opening it.

He might have been expecting any number of people, Bertrand the nocker is not one of them. "Sir? I uhm...sure could use your help."

The boggan opens the door and gives the nocker a puzzled, if one-eyed, frown. "Bertrand? Do come in." He makes way.

"Sorry sir, bad time I know. As you know I work in glass? So I buy materials of all sorts to make the glass with, but I also..." He wipes his feet before coming in, "I furking find old glass works either to incorporate or touch up."

He leads the boy into the kitchen, sets him up at the table, and starts making hot cocoa. Stodgepole nods his understanding of the artistic process.

'well sir, I found a mirror...didn't think nothing of it at first beyond it was pretty good crafting under the gunk and tarnish. I cleaned it up..." He pulls off a backpack "And then, I put glamour in it." He reaches into the backpack and pulls out a mirror about a foot wide and a foot and a half tall. It's got squarish frame that has been cleaned, sterling silver. Within the surface, if he looks, William sees his reflection. yet he also sees... Balefire.

His eye widens.

"It's like a wall of glass is behind your reflection and on the other side if balefire, furking aint 'it?" A swallow, "Sir, I don't know what this means? Is it looking on a balefire somewhere else? Is there somehow a balefire spark IN the mirror? I don't rightly ken" He says meaning in the southern way instead of the fae knack

"Fascinating..." He murmurs, eye now narrowing. "Do you know the provenance of this mirror? You said you found it."

"Prov..." A wince, "Sir, I hate to sound stupid. Being Southern folks kind of assume it, but could you webster that word a bit for me?"

The young wilder is flushed with embarrasment

"It's origins, background, history." He supplies, still looking at the mirror and the reflection, taking no notice of the youth's embarrasment.

"Oh, chain of ownership," A nod, "Well, I found and bought it from a yard sale about two blocks away. That's one reason I came here. It was either you and Miss CC here, Mster Caesar , or Sparrow and August at their home but the last don't spend so much time at home."

"The former owner said it belonged to her grandaunt who was an 'odd duck', which I guess that means she was one of us."

"Or more strongly tied by blood, or Fae-struck." He agrees.

"Or, a powerful Dreamer. Hmm."

"May I?" He offers to take it.

"Well, when you start listing options..." Dryly "It muddles things. " He hands it over gently "You're more learned and I hope wiser than me. Figured maybe you had means to study it more? I know glass, but that's not the thing that has me baffled."

Oh yes, now that it's been touched by the nocker's glamoour, this treasure is activated.

BIC: Powerful, but it does not produce glamour like a balefire would. It's possible somehow the mirror holds back the fire within, but more likely this is tied to baleflame that is distant... and yet he's sure there is more to it than that.

"Bertand." Very seriously. "This is an extremely powerful treasure you have found, and brought to life. It is not a Balefire, in itself, but I suspect it is connected to one." He traces his fingers along the surface of the glass.

"Who connects a treasure to a balefire? Isn't that dangerous to the bale? "

"I mean, sure sounds like leaving your password laying around on a post it note"

Stodgepole considers. "There are ways to lay protections around it, and if every Treasure draws its power from the Dreaming, as does every Balefire, then there is a connection through the Dreaming, regardless.

"well that's true, fits some of the glamour theories postulated by Nockers more advanced than me..." He considers "But it has to have a purpose beyond being a screen saver."

"I promise you it does. I haven't determined what, yet." He glances at the clock.

Then he drums his fingers on the table. "I could try a cantrip or two. Learn more."

"You're welcome to try, sir. My magic's based around crafting and shielding more than divining."

CC could be back anywhere from fifteen minutes to near an hour

He nods and carefully hands the mirror back. "Hmmmm..." Looking around. "Ah."

"Should I ?" he looks aorund

"Do you need me to leave or someething sir? You're acting like you're expecting something"

"No, no, just looking for the right...." He gets the bowl he was stirring and spins it to the left three times, then stirs it to the right three times, while whisper-singing "Mama's little baby loves shortnin' bread."

Then with the clean end of the spoon he taps the mirror frame and whispers "Who made you?" ((4sux @ diff6))

It whispers back, "crafted was I by Lord Titheral, so that one might track lost fire of bale."

"How does one track lost fire of bale?" He murmurs softly back.

"Fire unclaimed weakens and dies, it dwindles and pales until embers it lies. but before that can happen, I lend my sight and show where the prize might be found. Then like a trail, like a map, like a guide, I show the way to where it hides."

"What is the cost for this?"

"A touch of glamour has me seek, but like any quest dangers lay in the way. Be assured a prize like this, will often turn seeker into prey"
