She pulls off the spiral of peel with a low-key flourish, and splits the orange into sections - offering one to the bird.

The bird takes it with a gulp,a nd almost chokes itself

"Oh, c'mon..."

"Yeah, it's pretty weak" he says

"Little bird, what do you need to thrive?"

The bird whisper chirps "A warm place to be, warm in dreams?"

It does not sound certain but that is it's answer

A nod at jimmy. His turn.

"What's your name or what would you like to be called?"

"Fizzle?" Again uncertain

"Oh, litle guy deserves to be more than a fizzle." A furrow between her eyebrows.

"Mayfire?" The creature chirps

Even though she did not ask again

"I suspect a freehold - a bale, even - might sustain him. But that's a question for Sylvi or the Chief..."

"Hunh. Or Jessica."

"What if it drinks up the bale? Poor things looks starved"

"Will you harm a balefire?"

"I don't THINK so?" It says

"Not very certain about anything, huh?" She offers another piece of orange.

This one, with a bit of her own glamour in it.

It eats that easier, and a small feather sprouts

It still looks weak, but not as weak

"Nice" Jimmy says "Thanks, Dagmar. Can you tell the chief about this?"

She nods. "I will. The Lodge isn't the only fire, either."

"Thanks" He says

And soon, Dagmar is on her way to make a report
