Later, Brekke is at the stable, tending the horses.

Symon eventually finds her there. Not in the nice cool lodge, noooo, she has to be out in the sunny pasture. or the hot, humid horse barn.

The barn does have the benefit of especially earthy scents.

Brekke does not seem to notice him at first. She is cleaning stalls and spreading fresh wood shavings in them.

Star lifts her head and snorts as he approaches.

A foot stamp.

Brekke looks up at Star, and then over to where she's looking.

Symon looks back. "Narc." He whispers.

"Hm. Good work, Star. Welcome, Symon."

"I spoke to Lily." He says, climbing up the side of one of the staalls to perch up in the hayloft. It's better than being loomed over.

She shovels some more shavings into the stall.

A glance at him, and a nod. "Tell me," she says as she continues her work.

He waits a moment, perhaps seeing if a please is forthcoming, then starts.

He whispers, without preamble...

"What was gifted may be taken away, justice has little say. Dreams can be torn from their holders when Flesh and Spirit are one. A maelstrom of changes threatens. I will try to help rescue my rescuer. I am Awake in the Dreaming. Dangerous. Dangerous. Lunacy, too many moons. The Bastard at the Gate of the Hag . The Clock has struck the time at last. Strike back if you must but know the altar must have it's due."

Brekke blinks and leans on the shovel. "That...is from Lily?"

"Yeah. She got it from a vision. Literally. She reached out and wrenched it free. Written on a deadman's hide, by an Awakened One, who sought to help Adam."

Brekke looks disturbed by that description. "So...Adam is definitely alive and in need of aid." She lets out a long breath and looks grim. "I do not think I understand the words of the vision, but the tone is definitely one of threat, danger."

"The Bastard at the Gate of the Hag," she repeats. "What Hag?"

"Not necessarily. Just because someone is trying to help him, doesn't mean he needs help." Symon points out. "I whispered the parchment, but all I could find was some information on the writer. What do you think it means. Awakened one? "

He tried to think if he knows that term.

All that talk of a will worker last phone call rings a bell, no pun intended, in Brekke. Isn't that what mages boast of being? The prodigals?

And Symon has a Dune moment... the Sleeper has awaken.. who else talks like that? Prodigal mages, or so he hears. He spied on Piper, she met some for a concern

She sighs. "It may be that it refers to a Willworker. I thought we may have checked them off the list, but apparently not."

"A mage. Prodigal. It's... " He rolls his eyes as it becomes obvious. "It's a Dune reference, so even more likely that the one who gave it has mortal ties."

"...do you know if any around here have ties to them?"

"A Dune reference? I have not read that." She shakes her head. "Perhaps Mountain Vali, or...possibly Professor Wayburton or Zane would have good information. But ties? No."

"Or perhaps, maybe not ties, but even casual relationships. Contacts."

She thinks a moment, then sighs. "I will contact Baron Kealan, see if he has any such connections."

(Around this point, Frank goes home to the Lodge after patrol with Oak)

She frowns. "I grow impatient. If he needs help, we should go. Now."

"Or find a way to close the door so that whatever trouble he's courting doesn't come home to roost." Symon mutters.

"We need to bring Adam to the safer side of the door before we bar it."

She finishes up her work, and absently puts the shovel in a corner. "Another possibility, Symon, may be Firnost. Necropolis makes strange bedfellows."

"Adam is stirring up trouble that puts others at risk. Lily... Lily is ready to trade away her very fae soul to help him, do you know that? I won't let her. If it means locking him on the far side to save her, I would do it. In a heartbeat." He speaks truth.

She turns at looks at him sharply. "She said that?"

A look that says, "would I lie to you?"

A brow that says: Of course you would, given the right circumstance, but I believe you in this case.

"Even more reason to rescue him. Less chance of her trying to save him if he is saved."

"Less chance of her trying to save him if I lock her in a closet." He mutters.

"She won't tell her parents. At least, not yet. In return, she will be told what we plan and what we know. That's the best deal I could make."

"She is sluagh, Symon. You would not respect her if she could not escape from a closet."

He envisions... some sort of glass... orb, perhaps.

"That is a fair deal, and when you see her next, please thank her for me for the information she has already provided."

"Yeah. I will." He nods, then notices something on the floor of the barn. "Hey, are you going to keep those?"
