"I'm sorry" true but might be he's sorry he got caught

"Follow." She turns and leads the way to the closest broken mailbox.

He swallows and follows "Oh man I'm gonna get probed"

"Here..." she hands him a piece of it, and shows him where it belongs. "Hold it there."

He does

Frank checks on Oak.

"Hmmmmmmmm...." Brekke begins to hum, a low rough sound, and she traces the tip of her silver finger over the spot where the part broke away, and then over the dents in the metal, casting the heatherbalm to mend what this boy broke.

Oak is by his side, loyal

"Wait. .how did... " the impossible keeps happening

There's almost a smug tone in her continued humming as she moves along to the next mailbox. Again, she indicates that he should hold a broken part in place as she and the glamour do their work.

"You ok?" he murmurs.

He does... "This is incredible" He says and holds it "It's as good as new" Intrigued

Oak wags. he's fine. Oh wait, did you mean your mate?

Frank looks from the dog he was talking to, to the mortal. "Why destroy, when you can repair and create?" he asks in peak "Disappointed Dad" voice.

"It .. always seemed a lot of work for no fun" he says but is gazing at the work that's BEING Done

They have moved onto the third....

And as that one mends before his eyes...the shimmering energy of the magic fades. Brekke takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, flexing her hand.

Frank gages; she's ok?

She is. Understandably a little drained, but only a little.

She looks to the last broken mailbox. "That one, I will not do. You will."

"This is the most amazing thing I've seen. I.. me? How/ I don't have psychic alien powers" Apparently he's decided they're NOT Demons

"Then by the sweat of your brow, you will correct your mistakes." he rumbles.

"Okay .. I guess with the right tools I could hammer out the dent?"

Brekke nods agreement with Frank.

"Or two."

"Or two" he says

"Do you have access to the right tools?"

"Ah, no" he says lamely

"You will need the correct tools."

She gives him the money gleaned from his companions. "This you will do tonight: you will leave a note explaining that you will repair this tomorrow, including your name and telephone number."

"This you will do tomorrow: you will go to..." she names a small hardware store, a mom-and-pop that has survived the influx of big-box stores somehow. "You will explain what you need to do, and ask for instructions on how to do it. You will listen; you will learn; you will do."

"And...we will know."

"I .. I will" William says, for that is his name, "I think you for not calling the cops or.. letting your crazy space dog eat me"

"Hm."

"We will know. -I- will know." he rumbles.

"When you finish the task, you will still have the tools. They will be yours. Learn what else you can do with them."

"That is another requirement."

"I...I'm not sure how good I'l be but I'll learn' Aand he means it..inspired by the impossible, and the seeming implacable

She nods, then looks to Frank. "We are done here?"

William looks ready to go if.. if they'll let him "I should get started"

"Hm." She looks down on him from a great height as if he has just stated the obvious.

And he scurries to do that.. not a better man, not yet, but on the path to it

"Thank you for coming." Frank says to Brekke.

"I thank you for calling me to do so."

And the three, for Oak bumps against each in turn, make their way home after a patrol that might just have built rather than destroy itself
