A few moments of quiet. "What did that even feel like?"

"Well, first I kind of want to murder him... but then I remember it would annoy the Chief and she's cool so I let half the shit he says just go in one ear and out the other..." Dirk shrugs

"Dirk...I was asking Adam...."

"Oh" Dirk says

Adam shoots a look at Dirk through the rear-view mirror, then shrugs. "Gross. It sucked."

Sylvi thinks about it for a moment, quietly shudders with disgust, but then drops it. "We've got to have a cover story for why we're there."

"We're busting mailboxes?" Dirk offers

"Can't you guys do some magic and make us invisible?"

"I aint' got the veil no" Dirk says

"I can. Just trickier to cover multiple people, especially if we're fighting things, while there might be mortals looking. Just saying, we should have a story as backup."

"I guess...soil samples for a summer school science project. About...um...weed killers and stuff."

Adam gives her a disbelieving look.

"uhmm" Dirk isn't sold either

"What? Old people love that stuff. They can argue with each other about it."

"If you say so" Dirk says

"Yeee-ah."

"Okay, well, fine... you guys come up with something, or just hope my cantrip holds."

She frowns and looks out the window.

Dirk says "Im good with winging it" He says confidently "But uh... good idea on the cantrip"

"Well, I don't have much magic. So I guess Sylvi has to carry it." He agrees. "I mean... can you do it on me?"

"Yes." Her answer is short...perhaps a bit miffed.

"Cool."

And they get to the old folks home- it's a pristine and clean and happy happy colors here and there on the roof and more... hedgerows to add green... a large yard

and yet to enchanted eyes it's a mix of banality and the glamours of fear... fear of withering and your body and mind betraying you.. fear of loneliness... fear of the unknown end that awaits all but is closer to those here

Adam parks, unbuckles.

Sylvi's eyes widen at the sight of the place..."Oh...ugh. No wonder that thing hatched here."

"That's..... that sucks."

"Yeah...." She takes a deep breath and gets out of the car.

Adam gets out as well. "Ok, so.... we check the lawn? How? Or.... wait....."

Dirk says "Yeah.. see, I prefer sudden and abrupt horror... it gives you a fighting chance right? you MIGHT get away. You might grab the chainsaw from the killer .. this shit? how you supposed ro fight it?"

He starts moving out on his patrol; usually he drives it but today he'll walk it.

"Well...if it got you, you had to be outside of the car. Did you maybe have a fare you had to drop off here?"

"I don't........" Adam looks back at the app.

"I guess...if I were a bug, I'd want to hide in a hedge." She nods in that direction. "Hang on, everybody cover your eyes a moment." She puts her hands over her own eyes and gives them a moment to do the same.

Adam does.

She trusts that they both do and says, "Okay, everybody count to ten out loud. One...two...three..."

"Four..." Counting with eyes closed

And presumably, they all get there.

"Ready or not...here we come." And the veil sinks over them.

They move into the area...

Sylvi keeps her spear ready. "Hedges?" she suggests again.

"Yeah.. "Dirk says "Sounds good" He has taken out his own morningstar

A peek at the building itself... and Sylvi sees an old woman staring out the window almost mindlessly. Embedded in her forehead, a Memory tick drinks deep

Adam has at least his hand on the hilt.

"Yeah, ok."

"Oh, crap." She stops and points at the window. "They're inside the place."

"Huh?"

"Oh shit.." Dirk says "It's a zombie film... "

"See the woman, Adam? In that window, first floor on the left."

Adam kens and feels it too..
