"Well... she's not wrong. You told me you'd get it last night you didn't." His mom says "We'll need to work on that."

"I know, mom, I'm sorry, but Mr. Greely said I should get this and a resume back to him this afternoon. I'll do it tomorrow, ok?"

"HA!" Lily chimes

"Lily....." a warning tone.

"Lily? Cool it.." His mom says

This way lies madness and noogies.

"It is not YOUR place to tell your brother to clean his room. And, he is doing something very important. Now go do something or I Will FIND you something to do"

Lily vanishes so quickly one might think she teleports

Adam's mom says "Okay. Tomorrow... and..congrats. That's fast work finding a possible job. Where is this at?"

"Sporting goods store. I mean, it's not a lock or anything. I had some help."

"Mmm here, let me help you with your resume? You should mention that week you helped the church with that house repair... it was charity on your part, but it was hard work and you showed up every day. I was proud of you"

Well mostly what he did was fetch things and some nailing, but yeah it was work

"Yeah, ok... and thanks. What about the bake sales and car washes for the team? I organized some of those."

"I seem to recall your organizing had me do a lot of phone calls and baking." Then she smiles "But good point. Go for it"

"Okay." Happily guiltless. "Ok, how does that look?"

She looks it over, gives a pointer or two, then "But yes pretty darn good. Resumes for teenagers. Lord."

He makes the corrections without arguement. "I'm going to make a copy of the job application, just in case I mess it up in pen."

"Okay. Guess you've got this" She says an odd look in her eye. Hard tor him to parse.

He tilts his head for a second, then nods and looks back at it all. "I got this." he repeats, then leaps up with the job application and hugs her. "Thanks, mom!" He springs for the printer/copier.

"Welcome" He's growing up so fast. sigh Proud... sad. A mom.

He copies it, sets the original aside, and starts filling it out.

It goes pretty quickly and soon, all done. Confidence is not a problem for him and any worry he had vanished with mom's assurance.

He prints the resume out and puts everything together.... ready to go! He hops back in the car with a shout to mom and heads back to the store.

He arrives, and waits... because the guy has a customer.

He waits, easily, browsing with a folder under his arm. Hey....sale on a new net. That might be good.

Once he has an income.

Ooo... an employee discount maybe?

One can hope.

He waits.

Yet another pretty girl. Not a knock out like Tanya but... is she Arabic? I mean, there's no burka or anything, but the summer scarf around her neck has colors of a design he doesn't recognize

He grins at her, a head-tip.

She blushes and looks at her shoes.

He's cool. He shops.

"And here's your change" Mr. Greely hands the money over.

He watches what she's shopping for.

He heads over to Greely.

YES! She looked back his way... once he went 'off to shop'. She was checking HIM out too.

"Thank you, sir." And she's slipping out

Mr. Greely says "That was quick."

"I was ready." Confidently.

"mm, you're not timid" He looks over it, he raises a brow "You're a church goer? "

"Sure!" Occasionally.....

"mmm just trying to figure out how often you're going to need certain times off. I don't discriminate based on Faith, but availability is availability "

He shrugs easily. "I'm flexible."

"Okay. Be surprised how many folks find religion and it turns out to be a wednesday night poker game" mmm he looks over then, "Okay, Adam. Here's how it is. I can't afford you more than part time. Right now, I can't even be sure you'll get 20 hours. I pay just a dollar over minimum wage at the start... do well, it might go up. There IS a discount on things here, particularly surplus. I try to run a no nonsense kind of place where customers get quality sports gear. My name's on the store, and I won't have my name assocaiated with crapola. With me so far?"

He nods. "Yessir."

"Your uniform can be anyone of those jerseys... Shows the merch off." He gestures and yes, some jerseys of various teams "Find one you like and that fits. If you last more than a week it's yours to keep"

Adam grins. "That's awesome, thanks!" He goes to look at the basketball jerseys.

Things lean towards local favorites... or the big winners, but not a bad selection
