When he finds one his size, Mr. Greely nods "Sure as hell beats a tie"

"Got that right!" He grins, then "Sir."

"Okay. Here... if you got the time, let me show you the ropes. You ever work a register?"

"I'm all in, sir.... show me how it's done." In the face of his attitude, he's willing to learn.

Noticed, and while no troll (not that Adam knows what those are), it earns the young man a brow of quiet approval before lessons begin. The idea of earning money, of his own (WHich dad will probably insist go partly to a fund but that's another debate for another night) is a balm to Adam. Less chance of babysitting Lily.

Now there's a perk that makes having a little sister worth while!

Adam listens and learns but part of his mind daydreams about the possibilities of a new place, new people, new adventures.....

And as his mind drifts off just a bit... for a moment he sees something.

*blink*

Nope. Whatever it is, it's gone.

He shrugs.

Maybe he imagined it.

Probably.

Soon enough he's heading home, to show off the new jersey, and tell his mom he's got a new job.

"Hey! Guess what!?!?!" He runs up the drive way to his family.

It's his dad he runs into, his father having returned home, "You got a job."

"Yeah!"

"Your mom texted you were going for one, nice work" his father grins and offers a fist bump

He gets one. "Sports store."

"Nice.. hence the jersey swag?" A look at what his son is carrying.

"It's what they had, and it's what I wear to work there!

"Honey" His dad calls out to his better half, "I wanna change jobs. Can I work at the sports store? I won't have to wear a tie."

"Nooooo... mama needs new shoes now and then that AREN'T sneakers, thank you" Then "Did he get the job??"

Adam's dad looks down at him and gestures with a 'it's your news' kind of motion

"Yeah. I did."

"Well, there goes babysitting but congratulations"

As he goes into the house his mother gives him a warm hug. Lily protests she does not NEED a baby sitter.

"I know but....well." Regretful.

"Thanks, mom......."

"You're welcome. Oh, I hope my casserole is acceptable... I got the cheese on it a certain son likes"

It is indeed quite tasty and a smart young man might figure his mom made this 'everything Adam likes in it' casserole as a celebration even before she even knew he had the job.
