"You girls ready?" Tove calls from the car

"Coming!"

"Well, okay, we'll figure it out. If you can cover all of it, would they let you go?"

"I think they might have to but that's not fair to you guys..." Lupita says

"Well," May says as they get into the car, "We can always go into the leash selling business"

Theo barks good bye

"SO many lawns! Or we could wash cars?"

"BYE THEO!"

They head off, with Tove saying "I'm proud of you three. And Sam, your dad and I will miss you while you're at camp"

"Yeah yeah, you're gonna have a second honeymoon, totally."

She blushes "Well, yes I hope to. "

"And you will NOT describe a single thing to meeeeee. No sir."

Laughter breaks out in the car

Sam hands the 200 over to Tove. "Down payment!"

"And done" She takes it

The three feel like champions... and when they get to the farmhouse, and check email...

"You've got three more jobs for mowing on this" It looks like their website and word of mouth is going!

"Sweet! Gonzales, you want in on this?"

"Hell yes!" SHe says

"Sweet. We can head out tomorrow?" Ready to send out email replies.

The girls all find their schedules are clear

Siv wipes her brow coming in from a patrol. While not as organized about it as some, she does try to do so now and then.

Brekke is finishing a coffee, and she looks up. "Ah. Siv. Good patrol?"

"Oh, not bad... apparently someone has been putting rats in MRs. Mcgilicudy's mailbox but other than that, no real news"

A sigh. "I do not suppose there is a hope that the rats simply find their way in there. How upset is she?"

"Oh, furious... but then, with due respect, pissy is her default state. Probably why someone's doing it."

"Yes, I realized that as I was asking," Brekke says with a slightly wry intonation. Then, more seriously, "Siv, I need to speak with you. Come and sit, please."

"If this is about the speeding, I already got the talk from dad yesterday and I've been taking it slower since" she says not seeing much good in talk that starts with sitting. Siv DOES ssit , of course

Brekke hesitates before continuing, looking at Siv as she seems to be deciding on her words. At last, "It is about the speeding, yes. And yes, I know your father has already spoken to you about it. Right now...I wish to speak with you about your father."

Siv's eyes widen "Well, that last part threw me off a bit. Is dad okay? "

"He is well," she nods. "As well as he was when you spoke with him last. Siv..." another pause, then "...what do you know about your father's parents? His mortal parents?"

"They passed when he was very young , dad kind of had to raise himself a bit didn't he?"

"Well, not so very young. He was about your age. And he was taken in by the parents of the woman who would later become his first wife, Jessica's birth mother." A slight frown there, but she continues. "Do you remember how they died?"

"Driving acc... " She says "oh lord I'm dense" as realization kicks in.

An eyebrow. "Well...at least the information got in there eventually." She reaches and taps her daughter's forehead with a fingertip, lightly.
