Brekke looks at her a long quiet moment.

Her chest puffs out, jaw more stubborn than ever... but her eyes dodge away.

"Did either of you for a moment think that that one item of glamour was a catcher's mask? Or that it was intended for your use?"

Stony silence, not looking at ANY of the adults.

Jaymes says "Dagmar. Treasures and items of magic can be dangerous. Going around activating them willy nilly ...what if it had been a weapon and not a transport?"

Siv blushes purple

"Often times a flush of Glamour, such as the use of a magic item, can act as a signal or beacon for those that are watching."

"Ma. No. I was curious, but it obviously wasn't a catcher's mitt. But it was magical. And how could we not be wondering? '

She opens her mouth, then shuts it. A frown.

Brekke adds, "Siv, if I asked you to get a blanket from our room, and you went in the room to get it, but saw on my dresser a handwritten envelope from your father to me...would you look at the contents?"

"I wanted to see what it did." Soft and sullen.

Frank nods. "Of course you did, Dagmar. And that's to be commended. But there's a difference between wanting and doing, isn't there?"

"And neither of us knew what an Egress was so... " then at the question "No. But then, a letter is naturally private. A glass sphere with a key? That doesn't scream privacy, it screams 'turn the key'"

A shrug. She sneaks a glance at Jaymes.

Jaymes is rubbing his forehead

"In this case, it should have screamed, 'This is not mine to use, it is Vali's, and I should ask his permission.' "

She slouches lower in her seat.

"Well, I'm NOT going to throw Dagmar under a bloody bus here," Siv says "So yes, I should have stopped her, but it's hard. She wants so much to see things in our world, and do things. But she's unsained, and she's feeling as trapped as I was. So I didn't stop her even though I'm older. Mum, I ...can't say I'm sorry it happened. It was a grand adventure in the end. And she needed it I thought. No trod danger, no into the dreaming. But still wonderful. And sshe got to see the Kestrel. And I got to see a great hold, And we're back safe and should be glad for it. "

"Yes...the lack of apparent negative consequence is preferable." A frown and a slight grumble, though, at the notion of consequences. "And yes...you both got time on the Kestrel. In fact...I think you should have some more time on the Kestrel."

"Uh oh" Siv says not sure she trusts this.

An eyebrow at her daughter's perceptive response.

Slouching sullen silence, still.

The Chieftain leans back and says, "You violated Vali's privacy, and recklessly activated a treasure that was not yours to use. Siv...the Kestrel needs rope inspection, and you will show Dagmar how it is done."

Jaymes looks at Dagmar "Dagmar, you will listen to Siv and follow her lead on the Kestrel classes. That clear?"

Shrug.

"Ahem, words please" Jaymes says

"..yeah."

"Thank you. " He nods "Dagmar, You know how drugs are dangerous? How you shouldn't take any unless you know what type they are, the harm they could do and so on?"

"So, what - magic is drugs?"

"It can be."

"No, but what you did , just activating a treasure you knew nothing about? Is very much like taking a hit of something you don't even know, and being very very lucky you didn't get one that ODed you into a corner"

"Or, call ... drug dealers here, to continue the metaphor."

"Vali's Breaking Bad?" Siv blinks

"But it's not drugs. It's magic. Like... like in a movie.."

"Some movies have tragic endings." Jaymes says "Horror movies? Folks die in them"

"We've talked about Bedlam." He reminds.

"If I go on a trod I'll go crazy. If I touch anything magic I might die. Fine."

"I didn't say that," Jaymes says and looks to Brekke

A sigh. "Dagmar...I agree with Jaymes's concern, but it is not what you are being punished for. You are being given consequences for using that which was not yours to use. Do you understand?"

Siv says to Dagmar "I was told sports equipment, I shouldn't have let you do the other thing. Or, at least should have tried to tell you no. I'm the older troll."

She snaps. "So what's the punishment, then?"

"Siv, you aren't the boss of me."

"She is the boss of you for this punishment, Dagmar. Understood?"

"Rope work on the Kestrel... we go over every inch." Siv nods "And you're right. i was nae the boss of you, nor you me, but as older I should knowbetter and I owed you that and did not give it proper . Also, we're cousins so...well, we do need to look out for each "

A low mutter to Dagmar "It's not HARD work , checking the ropes, but it's boring"

"That's not..." A frown.

"Is this understood?" She looks to both girls.

"Siv didn't turn the key, I did."

"Yes, Captain err Chief"
