Jess let's him sort it out.

"Senorita... no you... I do not wish YOU to pay for it"

"I.. can I still be here if I refuse your help?"

"Yes."

"Gracioas" He says "I am sorry to be firm, but sometimes, a man, he has got to do what a man has to do. But, as I am not yet a man, I am only practicing doing what I got to do so if it fails I shall come to you and tell you I am terribly sorry and maybe could use help after all?"

Jessica nods. "That is acceptable. I would like someone to go with you the first few times you go to training in New York."

"Who?" he asks

"Who would you like?"

"I do not know. I thought i was big enough to do this by myself"

"Just the first few times, until you know the way. We do not have a direct trod there. Has Dame... Gladious? Has she talked about any of these details? Where you'll sleep, how you'll travel, costs, so on?"

"Gladiola I think" he says "They also call her Gwen. No, she said she had to verify a few things with her liege"

"Oh. Ok, so this is still a... I guess a soft deal?"

"Ah... si? I guess? It's trolls talking so.."

"Her liege isn't troll, though, right? He's.... Ailil, a Sidhe?"

"I think so" he says "Summerstrike used to say no Ailil could be trusted, but he was wrong about many things. I am going to make enemies into friends like you taught me to"

She smiles a gentle little smile. "I'm honored, Holger."

A smile back and he salutes her troll style

She returns it.

"Senorita now that I have nOT bribed you, have a snack if you wish. The puppies, they are very cute. I can tell you of them? They are Great Bernese. Their mother is Edelweiss. You have seen her before. THier father is called moonrise or something like that. There are six puppies. four boys, two girls. I will not have my pick , at least not first or second pick I am sure"

Jess gets the bag and takes a few things out and offers some to Holger "Please join me? I know Edelweiss, yes. The puppies are the result of trying to develop a new kind of Fae hound. The collaboration of Silverwolf and Rivervale each contributing dogs to the breeding program means a certain amount of risk for both and so they get first say on what happens to the puppies. It was all worked out beforehand."

"Yes, I must abide by breeding rules for which ever puppy we get." He takes some of the snacks and joins her

"Assuming we want to breed dogs."

"Oh, they would not be bred here most likely" he says "It would be at Silverwolf " his brow knits though. There IS much he didn't ask

Jess notes the brow. "What are you thinking?"

"Dame Gladiola tried to tell me it was not always so simple. I should perhaps have listened. She seemed mostly concerned with the dogs, as is her duty. "

Jess nods. "Where did you meet with her in Rivervale?"

"At the lodge. The puppies are in the sauna" A grin

".... which is off because it's summer." she finishes.

"Yes, but I still think it's funny"

"Well. We'll sort it out. Would you like to help take care of Azul?"

"It would be good practice, Si"

"Shall we go find her, see how she is and what she needs?"

"Yes. Maybe , among my other duties, I should walk her now and then?"

"I think that is an excellent idea." she agrees.

"Jessica. Do you think I will be a good guardian for the girls when I am older? I try hard, but it is difficult to be sure"

"Holger...." she puts a hand on his shoulder "I have never been so sure of anything in my life. You'll make mistakes. You'll learn from them. You'll grow. You will be a good guardian, with or without a dog."

He puffs up proud "Thank you" Then he thinks over it "Though I think It would be more fun with the dog"

"Almost certainly." she agrees.

He nods "I still like my cat, of course"

"Oh, of course. I do not believe you must love only dogs or only cats."

"This is true. A true guardian has big arms to hold many, and a bigger heart to hold more "

"That is well said, Holger. I'm impressed."

"Thank you. I am not sure who said it first" He admits "But I think I acccidentally learned something from someone when I wasn't looking" A shrug as if this is a hazard of being a kid

"That will happen." she nods.

"did it happen to you?"

"It did."

He pats her hand "I am sure you did the best you could with it. All you can do" reassuring and sympathetic to accidental learning
