"Thank you for your service but we will not need torture today."

Smilebright looks surprised "no? how will you get your information then?"

"I'll start by asking." She nods that she should be allowed to see the guest.

The Knight frowns worriedly, but nods "This way, countess" And to the prison they go

Arriving, Jessica approaches the captive Nunnehi; she stays out of reach and he is no doubt secured?

He appears to be fastened to a table, hands and feat strapped down, and a light gag over the mouth

"Ah, as you can see" The knight explains, "We antcipated Smilebright's services"

She nods. "Get him water." she goes and removes the gag. "Are you injured?"

"No" A glare from him

And water is fetched

"Would you like some water?" she offers.

"I want none of your drugs"

"Ok, I won't give you any. Water?" She takes a sip of it herself.

A glare then " A sip"

And he will sip some

She helps him with that.

"What I would like is to be able to return you to your people. I have done this before, for another warrior."

"Before I can do that, though, my duty to my people requires that the Baron be healed. Will you help with that?"

"No. Let him die"

Jessica is quiet a long moment.

"I know that you have no fear for yourself; not of pain, not of death." she says slowly.

"It is so"

"If I die and one of your chiefs goes down as well, I count it worth it three times"

"Well. I'm not going to allow you to be tortured, or killed. Not by any of my people."

She glances around; they are alone?

Nope. The knight remains

"Please go check on the Baron, Dame."

"The Baron would not wish you unprotected, Countess. And there are rules regarding no one being left with a prisoner alone. Shall I urge smilebright forward to cover your back in case of escape attempt?"

"No. I wish to speak with our guest alone."

The knight frowns, then says "I am sorry, your excellency, but the baron's rules are the baron's rules"

"The Baron is going to die unless you get out of my way, Dame." bluntly.

"In fact, since he's incapacitated and his heir is in her minority, I'm annexing his authority here. Go check on him, Dame. Now."

She arches a brow "That maybe, but my oath is not so easily disre..." She stops as Jessica pulls THAT card. For a moment she seems to consider defying her Countess to obey her Baron but then she says "On your head be it then, Countess" And she bows, and goes

Jess takes a steadying breath and turns back to the Nunnehi. "I suspect they'll figure out a way to get others back in here. I wanted a moment to tell you that, frankly, my life might be a little easier if the Baron .... wasn't the baron here anymore. So you may have done me a favor."

Confusion fills his face "What?"

A shrug. "If this baron is dead, I can choose another; one easier to work with. Or perhaps work something out with the local Nunnehi."

"You... would wish your own man dead?"

"Not wish it, exactly... but if I can't save him, I can make the best of it." she says matter of factly.

"But, that doesn't solve the issue of what to do with you."

He hisses, "I will die and my spirit will to to my ancestors until I return to the great circle"

"Maybe so, but probably not for years to come. I won't let you be tortured or hurt or killed by my people. I'll have you sent safely to my Duke, the one who has authority over me. He's young but wise; I don't think he'll kill you either. I'll suggest to him you be protected and ... studied."

"Studied? I am no insect under a glass"

"My friend, you are now." she says with regret.

"Give me a way to save the Baron, and you will be returned to your people. Otherwise, I'll make the best of the situation."
