Brekke nods, then looks to Adam. "Do you wish to help?"

And then the Varich brings the Kestrel bird out of the shadows. "you must eat, Helga. I will dictum you to eat if I must."

The bird glares at him at that

Brekke stops and stares at the bird.

"Yes... but....."

Brekke shakes her head briefly at Adam. "Go and help. I can wait."

A female kestrel, the little falcon is sullen, and it is obvious she has not eaten, nor taken wing . She is not dirty. But she is listless, only the threat of dictum seeming to revive her at all, and even then it is a sullen pride and resentment at the Varich's threat

"Sir, can I help?" Adam asks.

Brekke steps back and watches, concerned.

"I doubt anyone can, Adam. I do apologize, I did not mean to stop the conversation. " But he explains "Helga here lost her mate days ago. Since then, she has refused to eat unless pressured, and she will not fly. " A sigh "Foolish bird, to love too strongly. "

Indeed, the kestrel's ire was short lived. She has once more lapsed into apathy

"Oh." he breathes. "Hey, lady......" To the bird "Hey......."

"I am sorry to hear this," Brekke says quietly. "She will fade quickly if she does not eat."

"I will make her eat if I must" Sergei assures the Chieftain "It is comes with a price." He sighs "But I wear gloves"

"Hey, girl, you don't want to eat?" Adam murmurs.

Is it possible for a bird of prey to sigh ? Adam mumuring doesn't upset her. But she doesnt' really respond much.

"Sir Sergei...may I ask that you allow Adam to try to tend to her? He understands heartache."

"Mmm" Sergei looks over at the Chieftain "Baroness, had you phrased it in any form but a request, I might take offense. I must take the good of each beast here over whim or even kithain desire. But as you believe his insight could help, very well." A look to Adam "Here, Adam, your glove. I will transfer her to you. She shouldn't bite at you. After all, You won't be the one dictuming her to eat" He's not joking it seems. It would appear that the Kestrel Has snapped at Sergei when he forced her to eat.

"I would not presume to order the master at his work." Brekke gives Adam an encouraging nod.

"Yes, Sir." He takes the glove and the charge seriously.

"Now, the Kestrel is among the smallest of falcons," Sergei says "And one would think this a limitation. Do not. When the fire is in her, Helga is far more fierce than some eagles. She is smaller and the great winds can push her around more, so, she, and other kestrels, respond by embracing the wind and using it all the more adeptly. If I may paraphrase, it 's not the size of the bird in the storm, but the size of the storm in the bird that matters"

Then he sighs "I fear Helga has lost her inner storm. Without her mate, she is not wanting to find that fire. But to rekindle it will be hard"

A raised brow at the choice of words.

Adam murmurs to the bird. Encouraging, bolstering, feeding.

Brekke watches carefully, resisting the urge to move forward and try to help as well.

Helga refuses the food at first, the meat dangling having little interest it seems. But Adam is patient, and new, and finally she.. nips side ways and takes the food from his gloved hand.

"I know... I know.... there you go." He supports softly.

"Good. Good. " A nod from Sergei, "I am surprised. Not because you are not capable, Adam, but because I thought her too stubborn. A broken hearted female can be most intractable. Barely domesticated at all" A sigh

Brekke's brow goes up again at the Varich's comment, but she remains silent.

Adam is absorbed by his work, and his care.

That bite down, Helga shoots a brief dirty look at Sergei, perhaps to see if he's satisfied she ate, or perhaps wishing she could flip HIm the bird for that coment about domesticated females, then grows sulky again

And she won't eat any more today

"Hey now, sweet girl?" He offers treats!

Nope!

"I know..."

Though she does seem to settle in with Adam. As if sensing a kinship with him.

She's so TINY compared to some of the other falcons and hawks

"You seem to have a rapport with her. " the Hawkmaster muses aloud "Well, my pride will have to come second to the bird's needs. If you remain here, or even visit frequently, I will have you handle her until she has recovered from this impractical yearning of hers"

Macbeth caws "HALLMARK MOMENT!"

"Hm." Brekke nods. "Adam, if you are willing, I can release you from your patrols and duties at Rivervale for a longer time. You see, Sir Sergei, we have not yet determined who will mentor Adam."

"I had heard he was seeking one out due to his unique situation" A nod "Regardless of what is decided , I am amiable to sharing him . HIs assistance here could be a great asset and I will teach him as repayment. He seems attentive, and obedient enough"

The boy shrugs. "Yes, Chief." But he is careful of the bird he holds. "Thank you, Sir."

"He is that. He also shows interest here, and that is good. Do I understand, Sir, that you are willing to co-mentor him?"

"Or entirely mentor him" he Says "Save for the Fiona aspects. Yes there I would need help." A shrug "But one does not cast out an osprey just because one is used to hunting in the plains"

Brekke is silent for several moments, considering. "Adam? Your thoughts?" Then she adds, "And yes, I wish your thoughts, not what you think you should say or what others might wish you to say. What are your thoughts?"

"I don't... " He starts, stops. "If Sir Sergei is ... willing to have me. That's good."

Sergei raises a brow at something "Are you obeying the Baroness in this? And giving your thoughts? or waht you want us to hear?"

Adam stands up and lifts his chin. "What I think would a while, Sir. If I just said it. For now? That's enough."

Brekke sighs. "Adam. You are correct that it is good that Sir Sergei sees that you might be a good addition. But I did not ask you want Sir Sergei wants. I asked what your thoughts are. What do you want?" She rephrases. "Do you enjoy working with these birds?"

"Yes, Chief."
