"Yes" Gerri nods. In a matter of fact troll way

"Mom, not everyone understands grunts" Ester groans a bit at her mother's brevity. "Yes, mom's understating. Voile is actually easier if we have enough glamour, literally limited only by our imagination you know?"

"Did you need something done?" Gerri asks

"Oh, no, just.... good to have a source, yes? For holidays and the like."

"Ah yes, we're actually behind setting up shop for Halloween" Gerri nods "It's a lucritive time though I dislike it"

Her daughter snorts softly

it doesn't take a great social dynamics to read that. The mother has a strong distaste for Samhain. The Daughter is skittish about it, but also realizes her mother is too defensive.

Which, of course, is tempting. "Have you been in Kansas City long?"

"Not long," Ester speaks eagerly "We're from Colorado. We were supposed to move hear last year but the Covid slowed everything down. We thought a big city would mean more dreamers"

"It sometimes does" CC says "And Kansas city does not get enough credit for it's artistic endevours"

"mm" Gerri perks up at that news "Good to know. Thank you. Please, can we get you drinks?"

the last of the rehab is under way, and some of the rooms are intact and working, particularly they upstairs where they are lead.

"Oh, some coffee or water would be most pleasant."

"Combo residental and bussiness, how nice." CC observes

"Grandfathered in" Gerri says as she leads them to a kitchenette area "The down side is it means we don't dare change the upstairs too much."

"If mom were just 2 inches taller she's hit her head up here" Ester comments

"Fortunate to have found it." he observes.

"Thanks, dear" The smell of coffee already going fills the air "Here we go" And four cups are poured "Cream , milk or sugar?"

CC makes her request known "I love your backsplash" She says

"Thank you" Gerri says "THAT we could change"

"Yes please." to the coffee additives.

The coffee appears to be of a quality blend though not too fancy. She got the mix of additives right , Gerri joins them for a seat "So you run the Jazz club?"

"Focus on Period torch songs and lounge act vibe" CC says "My Emerson runs the restaurant aspects. He's amazing"

He blushes and looks down. "Now, Miss CC....."

"Just the truth, darling" CC gives him that wicked look of how she was going to brag about him and he couldn't stop her, "You know I fancy myself decent in the kitchen, but Emerson excells, not just at cooking, but managing whole kitchen crews, designing menu plans and more. He's very cosmopolitan and knows cuisine from over a dozen countries"

"Shhhh.... " he hushes her modestly.

Gerri gives an impressed look "A man who cooks well. An all too rare treat"

"Can we have dinner at your place sometime?" Ester asks

"Ester" Gerri fusses

"We'd PAY for it" Ester insists

CC chuckles softly covering her mouth

"I'm sure we'd be delighted to host you at the Ember Club, yes indeed."

"I love showing off my club, entertainment , meals, I'm quite swell horned about it all" CC nods "I hope you like Jazz?"

"I enjoy it" Gerri states

"Eh," Ester says almost apologetically

Gerri looks at her daughter again and BROWS

"But I'm always willing to give something a chance" Ester says

"Well, we'll have quite the event soon, Samhain" CC says. She is not a boggan so may have missed a clue

"Ah, no thank you" A shake of Gerri's head "We don't socialize on.. that night"

"Nope, we hole up like there were bombs being dropped" Ester jokes

"Well, to each their own." then he sighs "I'm afraid needs must, the evening is too lucritive an occasion for us to stay home."

"Yes, a pity the time coincides with Halloween" Gerri nods "Decent folk like us miss some opportunities"

Ester looks at everyone else intently, as if trying to piece together a dropped puzzle

"Mm." a casual comment "Perhaps one day we'll huddle together for protection."

"Well if you're club wasn't busy that very night, we'd invite you to stay with us here" Gerri says offering protection, of a sort, how very troll like

Ester however, blushes at something

"Thank you so much for the kind offer. It will keep me warm on that cold night." humbly.

CC smiles "It's much appreciated. This area can be a wee bit lawless in our world but it's usually safe. Just you know, THAT night"

"I quite understand" Gerri says as they savor coffee

"Excellent coffee, thank you so much."
