CC puts the book down "Oh that was delightful" Happy for it

Sitting up in bed, she's been reading the book in large chunks.

"Mm." He is reading his own materials; financials.

"Oh, sorry, finally finished this gothic romance. The setting's a bit 'castle on the moors' for this 1920s loving girl, oh and SO much would have been solved if she'd just bent all three men to her sexual will... but still delightful"

"I am glad you enjoyed. Sounds like she missed an opportunity."

"I'll say, she could have corrupted a vicar"

"Lack of intent and motivation...."

"True true.. the young lady in this was ..rather adrift at times. Poor girl didn't understand half of the longingsi n her"

"Some retrospect, then...."

"Mayhaps. If you want to read it, give it shot" She says

"Hm?" He turns his head and looks over his glasses.

She offers the book over. The cover art looks familiar somehow.. but the author's name is none he's read before

"Mmph. Bit of fluff." He judges from the cover art.

"Sometimes fluff is fun dear" She reminds "I bet you read some fluff at one point long ago that had you inspired by a band of plucky rebels against a great authoritian state"

"I have labored through great, weighty tomes of effort." He agrees. "You introduced them to me."

"Mmm" She smiles "Fine. "

He leans over, kisses her cheek, and after he resettles on his side of the bed, opens the book.

The prose IS purple, but the imagery is rich and lustrous. Easy to envision yourself there.

Skeptical.... he is drawn in.

Something about this feels familiar... a young woman, a choice of men in orbit about her...

Well, universal stories.....

Yes... mmm and why does he want to kill the Vicar but is okay with this quiet nobleman?

Religion?

And a One eyed pubmaster?

William squints, and reads....

"Everything okay dear?" She asks

It's only a bit character... but this is jangling his 'coincidence's aren't to be trusted' sense

"Hmph." Disgruntled. "Yes."

"Okay, darling, I admit a full paragraph about a Vicar's Spitcurl is a bit Much... but other than that I didn't see anything bad enough to hmmph about. You don't like?"

"It is practically it's own character."

"Well, Tolkein went on for a page an a half about a darn tree"

"Not about a hair style...."

"I'm just saying it's not without precedent"

"Hmph" But he continues to read.

And it's quite entertaining in points. Still, makes him wonder where he's seen this before but mmm

Yes, it niggles at him.... but he reads.

"Hmmm...."

And he finishes up the story

"Good, mmm?" She asks

"Something familiar about it."

"Mmm? Well" She says "Universal stories?"

"Yes. Certainly. " But he's not convinced.

She notices that "mmm think it's plagurism?"

"Oh, I don't know." He sets the book aside. "I suppose it's enough that you enjoyed it, hm?"

"I suppose, but it's something to look into if your'e terribly bored. Oh, speaking of which!" CC says "the Farmhold.. it's almost twice as big acrage wise... not the fae part, but still"

"Twice as big?"

"That old Aggro corps , the one smashed in the storm? They bought the land.." An amused look "Cheaply. For apparently it was haunted"

"Ahh.... yes, I recall something of it. Good for them." A beat. "Any promising talent there?" He can't help but ask.

"My sources as a grandma tell me that various sluagh were asked for help... one Symon of Rivervale among them. " She pats him kindly

He gives her a -sour- look.
