and the Gwydion's jaw falls open

Grete lowers the hammer, and carefully wipes off any dust or concrete grit from the pick with her own shirt tails.

"I should put this back. Someone's gonna be made if I mess with it. It's special." Clearly she covets it, and just as clearly knows how someone might react - how she might react if something so precious of HERS was manhandled by some twerp.

"WOuld.. you like to take this practice one so one day you can use the real thing in battle? " She offers "I owe you some lessons"

Carefully tucking the pick back where it came from, like she might tuck a babe into bed.

"Huh? Oh, sure. See, I know where to hit a stone, I think, mostly, but not how to hit a person. I mean, I have ideas, but it's not the same?"

"But you don't owe me." Confused on that. "I asked you. So I'm pretty sure I owe you."

"Well, okay... but teaching other childlings to be ready to fight if the adults can't help them is part of my duty I think. And it's not so different from finding a weak spot in the stone.. only you look for gaps in the armor, weak points in the chain or plate. Here, let's talk about where to grip for a fight... one way give s you more power but less control, the other more control but less power. Now I suggest practicing on control because we KNOW You've got power"

Grete hesitates. "This is wood and all, but it's still HARD. What if I hit you and break something?"

"That's why I'm wearing protective gear.." She slips some on... "And if I get hurt, I'll get injured. I'm cast protocal on the practice weapon though, that should hold it back from a leathal blow okay?"

Grete looks relieved. And then thoughtful. She knows how to hit softly, doesn't she? "Like just a tap. On a delicate crystal fault." She ponders out loud. She's never tried to WHACK something BIG softly, but it's gotta be a similar principle.

"I just don't wanna watermelon smoothie you by mistake."

"Or crunch any bones."

"I'm not THAT Frail" a bit of a huff

"I've practiced with troll kids like Ashlee"

"Oh." She nods, Ashlee is TOUGH. Still, a sideways glance at the concrete block.

"That was wit THAT weapon" She points to the crate, "we'll be fighting with the practice one."

Checking the heft of the practice weapon. It feels like a silly to next to THAT pick.

It does, but the balance is rooughly the same... mm which is to say meant for offense

"Okay... um. Do we take turns?" Grete is uncertain, though she slings the pick back in a ready gesture.

"First.. let me show you.. " And Catir helps Grete with her positioning, her stance, and yeah how to grip it... then makes slow motions to show her various ways to direct a blow

"Now see your target will be moving, so you want to watch the core ..."

Grete watches the blade...

It makes sense, right? That's the bit coming at you.

"No, my core, so that tells you where I'll be moving" She says as she steps to the side of Grete's practice swing, then taps her

"But your SWORD is the part that moves." She looks a bit baffled as she gets tapped, and tries again.

"It is... but the weapon is a tool.. the pick is nothing without the miner?"

"Humph." Watching Catir's midsection this time, and another swing, trying to go lower, below the wooden sword.

And she gets a tag!.. not a perfect hit, more a glancing blow, but she hit!

Pressing forward, letting the weapon continue past Catir, and then pull BACK, the pick might hook her leg?

A flicker of memory there!

But also, probably leaving herself wide open.

And suddenly.. a sensation of.. someone in the tunnels, HER Tunnel she trips the Gwydion... but the Gwydion also stabs... the two roll

And Catir is NOT upset

"Wow.. you tripped me.. I didn't teach you that yet? I mean.. you're dead.." She had hit a vital area herself "But still!"

"I'm dead, but you might be trapped in the mine, because I know the only way out..." She says, then blinks. Not sure where THAT came from, as she stands and offers Catir a hand.

Catir takes it "Oh, well if we're doing tactical scenerios that's another matter... but let's just start in the open, okay? Better to learn the basics first"

"How long have you been learning? And how much did you just remember?"

"I had did have an advantage in some old arcadain memories.. more like..."A pause "REALLY strong instincts and sometimes flashes of being older? I'm told I was quite the cranky grump if you can believe it"

"I can believe it." She answers without hesitation, and then a bit of a snicker at the look she likely receives.

A brow 'mm" Then she chuckles back

"C'mon.. for now I'm a cranky childling.. so practice eh?"

"I didn't think I had much in memory. I don't remember more than my name, and little glimpses... but this?" She holds up the pick, ready for another go. "THIS I remember. Swinging, hitting, crashing, cracking.. mostly stone... sometimes bone..."

"Huh.. well, that's interesting. THat pick in particular or just a pick in your hand?"

Pondering. "I'm not sure. That's the first REAL pick I've ever got to hold. My little molding and cracking picks don't count..."

"Whose do you think it is?"

"I don't know, looks custom made though" She appraises it

"It's fantastic." She says, leaning on the wooden pick.

"Diamond .. with steel... well can't get much harder... or sharper at point"

"Now THAT's what Diamond is good for. Not stupid jewelry. You know, Moissanite is brighter, has more fire, and clearer than Diamond, but no one wants it because it's cheap to make?" A scoff. "I mean, if you're going for looks, after all."
