Coradel catches her breath as she steps through and looks at the horses meandering around the hidden paddock. "Oh, my. No, Shelly, I had no clue...but I will not say a word. Your secret is important, and I'll not violate what you're doing here." She gazes about. "These are doing very well for 'hopeless cases.'"

"They're not hopeless when you have magic. But like hell - pardon my french, but like HELL if we're going to work healing and wonders and hand them back to the hands that hurt them. On the books? These horses don't exist. They cannot be rehomed easily, but they may live here happily."

The horses here look healthy, well care for, but with signs of past trauma.

A pretty paint pony whinnies a challenge, pawing at the sod, and bucks at the sight of them.

A foal with stunning coloration but clouded, sightless eyes is sniffing the grass quietly.

A race-worthy thoroughbred with one leg that shows a lightning-bolt marking - broken, and healed by magic? Nibbles flowers nearby.

A mare watches warily from under a tree, this one with scars, long since healed over, on her sides and flanks visible through her white pelt.

One matched set of lovely bays look like high-bred carriage horses, but they run together to the other side of the paddock.

The mare sniffs the air, ears flattening

"Of course. Of course, that makes perfect sense," Coradel murmurs as she looks over the collection. Her eyes light on the white mare near the tree. "That one. That is her. She is alive and safe," she says in quiet amazement.

"Oh, that's Missy." She nods. "The bays are Starboard and Port, funny names, but sweet enough when you get to know them. Buster there will bite if he sees a crop."

"Don't rightly blame him..." Shelly adds.

"They're splendid, Shelly. This entire arrangement is splendid." Her eyes haven't moved off of 'Missy.'

The Mare grows more agitated. Angry

Stamping

Coradel lifts her chin slightly, a defiance against the false accusation which may, on Chloe's face, look like old haughty arrogance.

"I'm glad you think so. Some folk think we should be spending more work prosecuting... but I tell you, these folk won't learn. Horse owners tend to be in places of privilege, and every dollar spent fighting the system could go to medicine, tack, hay... Oh dear."

"Take care, Miss. Not sure what has her spooked, the wards are supposed to keep out snakes...."

The unenchanted Missy sees no see defiance, just the face of the 'her' that whipped her. And Coradel can see the horse has her righteous pride too

"It's fine. It's not her fault. As you said, they're recovered, but not unscarred."

She has an urge to try to go up to the horse, to try to win her over...but that wouldn't be kind to the mare, who is not a fae horse and would not be able to understand. She has enough animal ken to know she would only terrify Missy.

"If you plan on working with horses, you must learn how to work with even the troubled cases. It's harder on the beasts if they have to be sedated for routine care. We work to make them approachable."

The clurichaun, all five-foot-nothing of her, approaches the mare, a hand outstretched. "Now there, Missy. Come to Shell. Did you get a burr?"

"Stand back, I won't have you kicked. But if there IS a snake or something spooking her, I haveta find out."

Missy looks tempted to charge Chloe.

"Of course, you're right. And I've worked with the ill and injured before." She looks over to the horse that has the scar from a broken leg, and moves toward that one instead. If she can prove herself to Missy with a different horse....

Shelly takes a moment searching the grounds. "No, no snakes." Her phone buzzes. "Oh, it's... lord, I have to take this. Please excuse me a moment." The clurichaun steps out of the paddock, leaving Coradel with the horses.

"HOW many ponies in one pen?" Her voice fades as the gate shuts, cut off.

"Of course," Coradel says to Shelly, and then moves again towards the racehorse. "Hello, you," she says quietly.

This one snuffles for her, sniffing eagerly at her hands and pockets.

"I wasn't expecting to meet new acquaintances today, sadly. Nothing in my pockets." She strokes his nose.

A sign of an old freeze brand on his side, though it is well grown over with new hair. Someone valued this horse - at least, as long as he could run.

"I bet you've got stories. But I imagine it's far better to enjoy this than to remember what is past." She moves to run a hand along his neck, and then pat his shoulder.

He blows at her hair, apparently forgiving her for the lack of treats.

Missy cries out something a kin to the warning to the horse the Chloe is no doubt about to strike. Don't trust that bitch!

STAMP

He takes a step back, but he? HE is a stallion. If she is danger to the herd, that is his business to defend. A snort... watching Coradel. Then, he sniffs again.

Tail Swish. She smells nice. Moves slow.

Coradel hears, but does not turn to look at Missy. She is calm and easy, stroking his neck, not asking for anything else. Content for the moment to simply share space with this horse.

The little blind foal is nosing around near the gate. She HEARD Shelly come in. Smelled her! But then, no soft pets? No tasty things? A distressed snort, and she butts towards the gate.

Missy moves to protec the blind foal, interposing herself betweenn THE CHLOE and the little onne

Coradel looks over to Missy and makes eye contact...and gives her a slow nod. Respect.

CHIN lift. Missy seems very intelligent for a horse

Then Coradel shrugs and looks away. Well, I'm petting this fine fellow here. You don't need to come closer if you feel that way about it.

The Little foal has had enough, and KNOWS that Lady Smell means Good things, and turns to tumble-run that way!

A lovely thing... Though breeding FOR that coloration likely caused the blindness.

More legs then sense!

Coradel makes a soft clicking with her tongue to let the colt who seems to be all legs know where she is. "I'm going to be a terrible disappointment for treats," she says as he approaches, "but I can pet you, nonetheless."

Ears go UP, and he orients on the voice -only to trip over a hummock and take a tumble before he reaches her. A confused bray.

The Stallion snorts. Sounds like a donkey. Foolish colt.

Coradel approaches to help him up. "Here, now, the world turned sideways on you for a moment, not your fault."

His sad bleating cries stop once he feels soft hands. Unlike other horses here, perhaps, he has only known kindness, other than in behavior he could not possibly understand.

Missy suddenly shoves Chloe

Away from the litle one!

She steadies him and makes soothing noises while helping him up on his feet.

A pause when Missy challenges. "I'm not going hurt him, Missy. I'm not her."

And she resumes with the colt. "Come on, there you go, yes."
