He looks down, nods, and turns to the face the rack of weapons.

"Sword for me?" Kyle asks

"Yes. Adam will be learning how to work at a distance with a larger opponent. Not always possible, but useful." She sets Speaker aside and also chooses a practice blade.

Eventually he turns with a spear in his hand.

Kyle picks a practice blade, and gives it a testing swing. It's clear he has been training , probably with Olgar. He's much better than he was.

Brekke nods to both of them, then starts with Adam, showing him how to utilize the spear when the opponent has a blade. Then she gives Kyle some tips about how to counter a spear.

Adam focuses, open to correction and following instructions.

"Because this is about distance, the attacks for both are more thrusts than swings." She gives them each some moves to practice separately. Then... "Now try, and I will watch." She steps back to watch the two of them spar.

Kyle follows the directions given, and moves tentatively testing. He seems cautious in battle and the use of his new might

Adam takes his place and offers a salute with his weapon.

"Remember, I can heal you," Brekke points out at Kyle's hesitation.

"Well, yes but your code of Dagda, and while Adami might be more trained than I am, i am stronger." Ahem "Recent admissions aside, I'm not in habit of striking my son."

Adam waits.

"Understood. Kyle, for the moment, he is the strongest combatant on the field. Also, this is training. At some point, you will need to be able to fight one who is smaller than yourself. You will need that skill. Adam, do you give your father permission to participate in this exercise by striking at you?"

"Yes, Chief."

"All right." Kyle says and salutes them both with his sword "Ready, Adam?"

Brekke nods and steps back, not a combatant at this time.

Adam completes his salute to Kyle and Chief, and goes on guard.

"Begin."

Kyle , remembering the Chief's comments, tries for a thrust but has his free hand ready to try to swat the spear off a bit if need be.

Adam moves back; a small retreat.

"Remember what I showed you...."

The boy is watching to see what the larger man will do.

And Kyle nods... and hunkers down charging ready to use the blade to swat the spear as it comes in, but still possibly able to trample!

Adam dances back in, jabbing repeatedly, testing.

Adam's first swat is knocked to the side but the boy is quick, and his next strikes his father, even as Kyle body checks him in return... had they been real weapons, well, Kyle might have a spear THROUGH his shoulder, while standing on top of Adam.

"Hold!"

Adam freezes.

Brekke nods. "Good. Remember, you are not fighting in a straight line. Use your left and right. Dodge if you can, Adam. Also, consider high and low. Reset."

Kyle backs up, but admits 'Good hit on the shoulder though. Felt it."

Adam salutes his father at the compliment. "Thank you. You'd have crushed me, though." He goes on guard, waits.

"Begin."

And his father tries again... not quite exactly the same, but similar enough and ready for the shoulder strike

so if Adam changes his policy as directed...

Adam does as instructed, darting around Kyle to the side, striking low, then high; he tries to tag a foot, then a shoulder.

Then he feigns right, darts further left, and strikes at an arm.

The result is interesting, shoulders guarded, but foot work is utterly disrupted as Kyle trips, slashes while going down, taging his son's thigh, before crashing and Adam gets a WINNING blow not just in the arm, but the armpit

"OOFF" Kyle felt that!

"HOLD! GOOD!"

Adam stops and pulls back, breathing hard.

"I'm.. dead aren't I?"

Brekke nods and grins, reaching down to help Kyle up. "Yes, you are."

Kyle lays there for a moment

THen gets help up "I think I iknow what I did wrong. I let him work the edges, then exposed a vital trying to protect a non vital. Damn. Good work son. That's... advertising worthy sneakiness"

And he IS proud.

Adam offers him help up... which yes, is a little silly. Still.

"Head fakes." He responds.

Brekke nods. "Exactly. This is how the small ones will defeat the large. It is difficult to know where the threat will really come from."

Well, Kyle nods as he is up , "Well, at least I 'made him limp' for his victory"

"Yes, and if you were armed with an edge, he might not be able to strike another in this battle."
