"What story? The.. oh. uhm... " Siv looks caught at an impasse

Then she edits it.. some "Okay.. I went looking for Jonas, because we thought he'd been swallowed by the whale when he fell overboard from the kids. They onlys aw waves and a whale tail and the storm whisked them way, miles away.... so I went back to that area to hunt the great whale hoping it had swallowed him without chewing him . Only when I found him, I learned Jonas WAS the whale.. using magic to sshape change like a pooka, but not as cute as you" Siv says

He beams.

"Now I was so surprised I... bumped my head , went int othe water, and well, I nearly drowned. But he rescued me... when I was supposed to rescue him. WHich made me feel very foolish. So.. he knew first aid and things.. and I lived... I woke up to a new dress and ... well... learned about some of his story. "

“Did he get stuck and couldn’t change back?” Sounding aghast.

"So you're salty because he rescued you when you went to rescue him?"

"I mean, not that I like mushy stuff... but that's sort of romantic, isn't it?"

“Salty! Siv’s always salty because the sea is in her blood!”

"It's not romantic, I'm the queen of the sea an d I nearly drowned .it's humiliating and..besides. He's not tempted. Truust me" A bit cool in tone there.

Eyebrow.

“Oh. So you don’t like him because he doesn’t like you? But he doesn’t even know you.” Looking confused.

"No I..." A sigh "No. just no."

“I like you.” He moves over to give her a hug around the legs.

"You seem pretty riled up over being rescued."

"Thanks, Connor. I can see why Gerd says you're her favorite brother" She scruffs his hair lightly, then looks at Dagmar "Let's not make more of it than it is. I judge quickly remember, maybe I just needed someone to dislike"

“What about Perchal? You can have him.” Then he claps a hand over his mouth. “I’m sorry. Maybe he’s nice if you get to know him.”

"Perchal?" Siv blinks

"Perchal sucks. yeah."

"He hurt Star."

“He walks about looking like he bit into a bad lemon all the time. Maybe he just needs to learn better.”

"What sort of sick twisted Son of a ..." She realizes little ears "Buzzard... injures a horse on purpose?"

"A jerkwad."

“She doesn’t like me, I don’t think. I tried to say hi and her ears said Grrrrrr. But maybe she likes peanut butter.”

"Well, I think this is a good recommendation indeed. I officially dislike Squire Perchal"

Pondering this as he licks his fingers. They’re not that messy, a good deal of it got on Siv.

Siv looks at the stain and endures it

“I’ll write him a letter in the morning. Then he’ll understand.” Hiding a yawn.

"How about I show you how to say hello to Star? Tomorrow. Tonight, bedtime."

"Dagmar has the plan, let's go with that." Siv sighs.

“I don’t think she knows how to write. But okay. And I can show you how to talk to Jonas, you just have to wait until he stops talking, and then breath three, two, one, and he’ll say it again in Normal.”

Siv smiles just a bit, but Dagmar can tell she's not happy.

"Alright. Annnnd... bedtime for Connor."

"And probably Dagmar too."

"Well, sleep well both of ye" She says "i'm gonna clean up a bit then ..possibly camp by the fire"

"Maybe that'll help?" She holds out her arms for Connor. "Want a ride up to yoru room?"

He frowns, a little sad, but clambers up for the ride.

"Bedtime for Connor and Dag-mar." She sings a little song.

A whisper in Dagmar’s ears, “you should go listen to the rest of the story for me.” Before he settles down to brush teeth and go to bed.

"I'll try. But sleep."

“Mmm hmmmm.” He’s practically out before she leaves.

"Mmhmm." Blanket up under chin, overhead light off, nightlight on.

Siv waved to them and cleaned off. Then goes by the fire and stares into it. She has no connection really. But maybe the fire will provide answers where even the sea has failed her. Jessica knows what's doing. Sure wish I were like that.

A wave to Siv before Dag heads home

"Night, Dag"

And back to the fire

Siv ponders I thought i was getting better. Damn it.

and she falls asleep, a soft frown on her face .
