A turn to Dagmar curious "sorry you know someone?"

Kerri grins at the question.

"No. Sylvi, probably."

"Oh, well, she'll be away in Alaska true, but maybe Colton can tough that out"

A sigh, and Kerri goes to the sink. "I probably shouldn't know anything that she's confided to you two...even if I really, really want to."

"I wasn't going to, honest"

"Just, you know - exactly. Alaska."

"Right." A wry grin. "I'm still in the adjustment period, where I'm expecting to hear her gallumphing down the stairs. I had the same trouble last summer when she went to the Farmhold. That was before we had the bridge, so it was a more difficult trod journey."

Dag sighs, wearing a hangdog expression. "When is she back?"

"Well, we all agree on one thing then, we miss Sylvi. But she's smart. She'll make friends and finagle well"

"End of August, about a week before school starts. Oh, Dagmar, that reminds me...I was looking at some of the school paperwork, and I'm not sure if Jaymes noticed, but if you want to get involved in any of the sports teams in high school, they start practices during the summer for people who want to try-out in the fall."

"Ooo that could be fun, Dagmar"

"sports are expensive."

"With the way you swing that weapon of yours, you'd probably be a natural at softball."

"I think the school provides some of the gear"

But she is not sure, as she doesn't go to public

"Well, sometimes yes, but if you're interested I bet we can work out a lot of the details together."

"I've never played... but..."

"Dunno. Might be cool."

"That's why I'm suggesting the practices. You get a beginner's sense of the sport, and have a chance to do well in try-outs. Also, good for a daily physical work-out."

"So how... it... you'd help?"

"Maybe we could find used equipment at a yard sale?"

"We could try. Take a look at the paperwork...." She pulls a handful of papers from a drawer and leafs through them until she finds the sports sign-up sheet, and hands it to Dagmar. "Look at the options, and see if anything appeals. If it does, we'll see about the next step."

She takes the paper, skimming it.
