Brekke's eyes go wide, watching.

"Darn, close." Jaymes wipes his brow

"Clever heroes and houses on chicken legs." He pauses, watching the throw, also impressed.

Loud applause from the crowd.

Olgar grumbles to his wife, "See what you let me do?" but there's a playful undercurrent

"I may have to try that," Brekke mutters to her brother in law.

"Chicken legs? Russians are weird."

Kerri just swats him.

"You're good enough as it is don't you think?" Jaymes smiles, a rare smile, but there, Then to Olgar "The good stuff"

"You think so? There's a Japanese demon that sucks your soul out your..." He coughs, perhaps a touch too polite to finish that thought at the moment.

That gets a chuckle from Brekke. "Fair enough."

"Japan is weird, too."

Colton raises a brow, then says "Don't worry, your dad will show em Samhain?" to Sylvi

Siv grins "unless there are other challengers?" Looking at her mom

"Can't argue that one. "

Brekke waves it off. "I will not take the prize from here. That victory belongs to Jaymes, and very well done." She draws out a hand carved medallion with the Rivervale insignia. "Bragging rights, and a bit of dross for when you need it most."

Siv isn't convinced, "Oh mom..."

"It's yours fair and square, your daughter's right, but, thank you" he says taking the medallion, "I'll use it in the lodge's service."

Frank coughs, a low rumble to Brekke.

A little shake of her head before she calls out, "I especially want to recognize all those who tried this for the first time today. You have might and natural skill, and will likely put me to shame next year."

The sky is getting dim, and Kerri murmurs something to Olgar...then she calls out, "Torch race in five minutes."

Frank nods agreement, and even approval.

Olgar nods to his wife and gets up to tend to it

Colton smiles and looks at Dagmar, "Rematch next beltaine? I want to see if I can edge you out just a bit"

She looks up when Colton addresses her, surprised. "Oh... yeah, sure."

"thanks' He says grateful for the chance, and he rejoins Sylvi

Lights go off in the woods

He murmurs, mostly to himself. "I could do better... with enough leverage, and a trebuchet... muttermutter brute strength..." Eyeing one of the cabers as though working through the math in his head.

Zane rises, "A race? Hot dang. Now we're talking"

While Olgar is gone, Kerri begins gathering those who wish to compete in the test of speed. "You will each receive a lit torch. Note: do NOT burn down the woods. There are lanterns in the wood path, lighting the course....if you get lost, we will come to find you. Get through the course and back here and be the first to light the bonfire with your torch, and you will be the winner.

Siv is in on this too. "Question, are we allowed to legsweep, trip, or cause a limp to our rivals?"

"You gonna race, Sy?"

"Good question." Kerri says. "No. Mostly because it increases the chance that somebody will burn down the woods with a torch!" A firm look.

Siv sighs "Geez , was a time a viking girl got points for burning things down"

Some chuckles

"We'll make sure to have that at the Samhain games, Siv. No dismembering your opponents, either." Kerri adds good naturedly. "Who's in?" And she starts handing out unlit torches.

A shake of his head, hands in pockets as she passes by him.

Siv, Zane, and Kelly are in. Colton will give it a try, though he looks less confident

"Olgar's just finishing laying the path, so even I don't know which way it goes exactly."

"I'm not a fast runner. Climbing, maybe... and champion at hide-and-never-be-found."

"I bet."

Sylvi is definitely in.

"you in?" Zane asks Dagmar

She shakes her head. "I know you're faster."

Sylvi says, "Yeah, but it's not just about speed...you have to find the trail, too."

A thoughtful look.

Ann Marie gives Symon a hopeful look but doesn't MAKE him do anything
