I had meeting at the start of the day with a very angry mom. Thank goodness admin had my back.

At one point she launched this idea: if you can find something in three separate sources, you don't need to cite it.

This BAFFLES me.

I don't know where mom learned it.

If that's a thing I can't say I've heard of it

BUT...I think she's the reason that child plagiarized. I think she gave the child VERY bad advice, and now mom won't own up to it.

In the end, though, she had to accept the situation and the consequences.

Perhaps mom recalls that vaguely from some school experience she had and is leaning in? Do you have a standard you can cite?

Oh, I have the chapter in our textbook on how to cite sources, the repeated lessons I did on plagiarism, and any number of other sources.

If the mom gave her daughter bad advice, then I do feel a bit sorry for the daughter there.

If Mom had said that, I would have considered giving the daughter's paper a score.
