I was hearing on NPR this morning that apparently documents that can be marked as classified include all sorts of things including lunch orders. There needs to be a distinction made between "classified" and "classified Top Secret"

Oh yes. Military has a lot of stuff like that

But this definitely creates awareness of the need of document management specialists in the executive branch!

Well, I'm spending this snow day in a grading frenzy, and a student broke my heart with some blatant plagiarism on the big final paper.

It tripped me up, and I haven't been able to get started on the next paper.

The frustrating thing is that she'll pass the class, even with the zero. That's how good her grades have been. BUT -- the plagiarism means she really shouldn't move on to the 102 class, even if she technically qualifies.

Don't suppose you can send her an email asking her for the REAL paper, because if the plagurized paper were the real paper it would have consequences?

I've already written to her to request an explanation, but I'm not going to offer her to rewrite. Better that she learn the lesson here than in college.

YEs, that's a big bummer. I wish I had better words to sympathize how it must feel to deliver such a lesson for the sake of protecting her, knowing she will not likely feel gratitude for the education of consequences. We often look to blame anyone but ourselves first
