...I could see a sluagh with a fondness for, like, myrrh and other funereal herbs...

waves I had a character give such herbs as a gift once to a sluagh, but can't remember who to who.

Oh, KB sluagh had some good stuff... the 'last in the cycle' bit was not one of them. liked most of the merits a great deal. Enjoyed the comment on Poe 🙂 And some of the roles sluagh can play "messenger" suggested worked pretty well

The Merits, I agree, worked well. Didn't contradict anything in the previous write-ups.

But how can you have 'doesn't reincarnate' in the same book with Aleskai (three?) toes, who keeps coming back life after life? Who wrote this? They obviously didn't think it through.

There were a lot. It already explained in PG (quite well) why sluagh whisper -- why make up some cheesy story involving bats? Did they just want to go, "I got cooler ideas!"

And I thought the story involved the boy who wouldn't be scared 🙂

In the story, the Tuatha were to blame for the sluagh losing their voices, because each sluagh had a bat for a voice.

You can only think this stuff up while stoned. "So, like, dude, check it out....how about...their voices be like, attached to something spooooooky, like worms? No, we need more Halloween stuff. Bats! Yeah, and, um. Sidhe, the sidhe did it. Yeah. They killed aaaaalll the bats."

Hard to anything in the book seriously when it so egregiously tries to re-write the whole kith from scratch into something completely different.

I heard the Eshu book sucked, too.

But, on the forums, after talking to one of the guys who was tapped to write a kithbook (?), and he was a nutcase fanboy....I don't take much from the kithbooks as canon.

The Eshu book was definitely not my fav. I think it kind of went out of its way to destroy a lot about what made the Eshu cool

Precisely the way I feel about the Sluagh KB. nod After I heard that, I didn't buy the Eshu one. What did it try to say about Eshu?

The Eshu KB had fun treasures. And despite having bought it, I don't recall anything of use in it after reading it ... oh, all of one time.

You already had a good Eshu in play, anyway.

Oh, some of it was pretty good. But they abandoned the 'princes of the road' thing to a large degree, and oh my gosh, EVERY other line seemed to be talking about the sidhe being bad. The Sidhe stole Naming, so we made them forget their truenames ....that's why they were confused when they came back in 69 ("Great job,, Eshu...if true, maybe that's why they went a bit nuts and now that's on you?") and then, really, what's coming up a sidhe sainings? 'File not found"? And the Eshu have the Oba..who are THEIR Sidhe like sub kith, just as pretty! And... their own blood purity

Even if you didn't like Sidhe, it was a mistake to make the eshu KB so dependent on them . If you do like Sidhe the Eshu KB came across as a collosal whine fest 🙂

Yeah. nod Pretty much same thing I'd heard from others. The original Eshu were reckless pranksters that were superstitious gyspies, basically, and couldn't refuse a dare....but if you used it against them, watch out. It made them both wild and dangerous.

I think Leila embodies that perfectly.

I'm not sure if you were around when she grew up -- fell in with an Unseelie boggan on the road, who made dealings like 'Something Wicked This Way Comes', be careful what you ask for? She still comes in and tries to rile things up now and then. 🙂

Oh! I don't remember her well at all

nod I think she caught the attention more of certain characters than others. 'Uncle Jeremy' still worries over her, even though she's now 20-something. Because he remembers when she was a little girl who he told stories to and would trail in dragging a bag and road dust and had 'itchy feet'.

Well, I can't compare to Murphy 😉

Murphy's good, in a different way. He doesn't really have much wild gypsy, but for an older American eshu, he makes sense!

Just saying, despite the rot - Zara is clean, but still foul 🙂 I like the ironic tension

Nocker book was good though!

Nocker KB was amazing

I'm not even a big nocker fan and I was like 'ooo, I get it.' 🙂

Some kithbooks were good -- added detail to the existing kiths, supplemented and expanded, rather than trying to re-write and replace what was already there. Nocker was one of those, IMO. nod

Nothing that I can remember -- and it has been a while -- contradicted anything that came before, but it explained some things. Like the Bes Din. 🙂
