"I couldn't..."

"It's ok." He says softly. "I'll be here."

"Probably shouldn't have started."

"Derynwydd, let's not do this again. It was what we -all- wanted; you, too."

"What about the house?"

"What about it?"

"Do we talk to Caesar?"

"Maybe Colton could stay in Jefferson..."

"He's your squire; he belongs where you are. And you're going to be here at KCAI. And this house isn't an issue. I'll be here."

"No, you wanted to be serious. So we should..."

She drops down to sit on the floor, knees drawn up as she looks at the mural.

August nods. "I am serious."

"So. I have duties at Earth Runes, and can't afford to complete the degree at KCAI."

"Are you enjoying school? Getting good grades? Could you renew the scholarship?"

"I don't know how the baron got it..."

August blinks, thinking. "Well... I can try to find out. There's still time."

She shrugs.

August nods. "Ok, I'll do that. The money doesn't really have to be a problem. And the house is solid." He unpacks his bag. "As a backup plan, are there any schools you like in or near Jefferson City?"

Another shrug, chin on her knees. "I haven't looked."

"Ok. I have, but not for an art speciality." He shrugs. "Still, not a waste of time." He grins to himself.

"Well. I can look."

"If you like." He agrees easily. "Want to see what I found?"

"Sure!"

He pulls a few college brochures out; all the same place, but different emphasis and courses. William Woods University, Missouri.

With a shy smile, he shows her. All the documents relate to Equine Study degrees.

"For you or Cora?"

"She is so good with horses..."

"For Coradel." The tone says it all.

"Sure." A soft smile.

He flicks through the most general publication, a school catalog. "Hey, for what it's worth, they have an art program too." He offers her the catalog.

She takes the catalog, looking through.

"Thirty three... oh, no. No, no, no."

August smiles fondly at the Equestrian stuff, and sets it aside. "Did you eat already? I should get a little revision in before Arabic tomorrow evening, but if you haven't we could make something. What's wrong?"

"Dinner. Yes. I should eat. You should eat."

"Ok, what do you feel like? And what's No no no?"

"Tuition. Did you SEE how much it cost?"

August picks up, flicks through. "Well. You're getting about that in scholarship now, right?"

She flushes pink, feathers rumpled. "Yes."

He shrugs. "Ok, you need another one like it. Let's see what we can do? Do you feel like burgers?"

"I like burgers! I can put together a salad, if you want?"

"Ok." August pads out to the kitchen and goes about putting together the meal.

She follows, bare feet nearly silent. There are paintbrushes in a cup in the sink.

August raises an eyebrow at the cup, then at her, then chuckles and sets it aside.

"What?" From the fridge as she roots out an armful of supplies. No shortage of fresh veggies these days!

"Nothing." Fondly. He keeps working.

"Okay. Ooo, we have radishes left!"

"Slice them thin, though."

"Can do." She is happily chopping away. Radishes. Sweet bell peppers. Tomatoes. The "fancy" bagged lettuce.

The smell of sizzling meat fills the kitchen. "Bun toasted or no?"
