"Well, I liked it a whole bunch as a rugrat. They built this BALLER inter-stellar phone from all kinds of stuff around th'house..."

"-That- he did." Nodding.

"Okay, so it's sci-fi. I'll look it up." He'll read the cliffnotes off the internet, he means*

"Y'know, really... hey, that umbrella structure might be a really good jumpin' off point for calibratin' intertemporal telemetry... I've been doin' just a single point of sensor, an' once you add that fourth dimension..."

"Kiddo, paper me..." as she rummages a pencil out from one pocket - little notebooks are stashed all over the house. At least five in the kitchen.

Emerson gets one from a drawer, as he's closest to the kitchen.

"Allow me." Bringing it to her.

He sighs, and like a well-practiced emergency drill, he heads for the nearest notebook, plucking a pencil from the spine, and bringing it over. His jacket dumped against the wall*

He stops, then, and lets Emerson do the honors*

She raises one plumed eyebrow at the dueling notebooks, but takes the one that is offered. There is sketching and muttering... something about "neutron flow polarity?"

He watches her sketch, sharp-eyed. He may not understand it all, but he's been picking up enough to get the gist at her workshop in Ardent Harbor*

He grins, watching her work.

And, unlike her apprentices, he is usually spared the full force scorching of her.... creativity.

*Something he's learned to be grateful for, as he watches her work* "Soon as I get quantum computing figured out, that's going to make calculating this stuff that much easier."

"Been using backdoors into the national research labs to keep tabs on development." A shrug to Emerson*

"You have tremendous talent and skill, no doubt of it." He observes.

"Not like her." A shrug, watching Janet work*

"Damn straight, kiddo. You're gonna figure that shit out. My skinny Leibniz!" High praise!

A crooked grin, shaking his head* "You figure out that neutron flow polarity thing, I'll get some iced tea. You want I should get you one, too?" *To Emerson* "Not too sweet."

He is headed for the refrigerator, to pull out a pitcher* "Unless she dumped another cup of sugar in when I wasn't looking."

"Why thank you, yes." Smiling.

*He is fetching three glasses*

Which... is not unheard of. "Tea? Yeah, yeah. Oh, hey - if I used a mithril alloy, I bet I could tap into th'mystic current in th'vortex...."

"I trust you both had a pleasant HighSummer?" With a twinkle.

Snorts. "Apprentices got ideas."

"Yeah. Wasn't bad. Somebody left brownies at the Freehold. Oh, hey, Ma, saved you one." He is pouring tea* "Just eat half, didn't know they were the funny kind."

"Oy. Firnost brownies? Damn straight they'd be funny somehow..."

"Don't normally eat things people leave laying around, but figured there weren't any dead bodies, so might be okay. Didn't die." He brings them each a glass* "It's in the freezer."

"Thank you." He takes the glass. "Funny brownies?"

"So, what - pot? Some kind of cantrip? Hey, thanks Spiderling. You ain't half-bad." She takes the glass.

"Pot, I guess." He rolls a shrug* "Probably some pooka joke."

"If you would care to allow me to examine it, I could hazard a guess." Mildly.

"You do anything fun and exciting?"

"Actually, I visited a freehold in Topeka. And, of course, work."

"Wrote a program that does nothing, that's how I know the damn things were loaded." He shrugs and heads for the freezer, picking up his own tea on the way. He opens the freezer, peering in, and pulling out the baggie to bring over for Emerson's examination* "Topeka? What's in Topeka?"

"...Topeka? Good god, why? Are you a masochist?"

"Hmmm... it being cold makes it more difficult to tell, but.... " He examines it; visually, then sniffing it carefully, crumbling a bit between his fingers... carefully tasting it.... "Hmmm...."

"Yes, Topeka. There is... was... a Baron's freehold there. Fontainbleu, have you heard of it?"

"Yeah. Fiona joint, dull as a midwestern grandma's tuches."

"Thought that was a kind of cheese." Janet's glass is set by her elbow, and he sniffs his own iced tea, suspiciously, tastes it....checking if it's oversugared*

Either way, he'll lean on the counter and drink it*

"Oooohhhh.... not on HighSummer. And, I think, not anymore." He smiles and offers the brownie back. "Very high grade marijuana, White Widow if I'm not mistaken. Otherwise, traditional brownie mix, with cinnamon. And, a very rare dust added. Oh, a touch of Glamour too, I think."

"Yeah? Something Ma should have? Thought for her lumbago, you know?"

He takes the baggie, and holds it up, waiting for the verdict*

"Rare dust?" A plumed eyebrow, then "OY!" at the lumbago comment.

"I'm thirty... something... I ain't decrepit yet!"

"Sorry, sorry, I meant when you had a long day on your feet." A twist of a grin at her*

He chuckles. "If you think you would enjoy it, it won't hurt you."

"I don't know that either of you would get the -full- effect, but it could be pleasant nevertheless."

He tosses the baggie to land on the table near her tea* "What's it do?"
