Sylvi frowns and regrets not having spoken to Etsie before coming down here. But she's here now, so she drops the Veil and knocks on the door.

The music stops. And a voice says "if this is about the rent, I still got a week"

"Hi!" Sylvi calls out with a smile in her voice. "I'm looking for Jenny?"

Door opens, and she sees a tall woman for a human, or maybe it's just her hair...signs of a rough life. She wears sweats. And looks suspicious "You got her. Can I help you?"

"Hey! I'm Sylvi from Goldfinch Studio. I heard you practicing! That's good!"

"Yeah, something I learned when I had...sometime to learn else where. Told I should stick with it..theraputic, you know? Figured it might be good if I didn't suck. Goldfinch? Oh, you with Etsie?"

There's something familar about this woman, yet she's also sure they've never met

She sorts through possible connections as she says, "Getting better at any skill is a good thing, I agree. And yeah, I work with Etsie. Are you enjoying your lessons with her?"

"Yeah, but ..." the big woman says "You're being nice ain't you? " A smile "How much do I owe you for the lessons? Etsie said I could pay it all at once in a few months if I need to but... I got a litttle?" The smile weakens

A sympathetic look. "Things are pretty tight, huh?"

Mental calculation: are the other late-payers going to provide enough to cover bills for a little bit? Does she really need Jenny to pay right now?

"Brought it on myself. I made some bad choices, the kind you end up paying for all your life. I'm better now but ..well, bills do come due. " She rubs at her blonde hair which is quite poofy for a white woman "I got .. i can spare a 20 now? Will that bide me over ? "

She could pull it off without her.

"Well...I realized after I came down here that I really should have checked with Etsie first. I didn't realize she had set up an arrangement with you. So hang onto your money for now."

"You sure?" Hopeful that it is so

"I'm sure. I mean, Goldfinch has bills, too, but we're getting by." Something about the hair. "I'm sorry...you're really familiar somehow, but I don't remember actually seeing you at the studio. Have we met?"

"Only been out of rehab for a while so I don't think so. You look like you got clean living, good on you by the way. Jenny Larson... but I think I'd remember you"

The last name doesn't do it, but the mention of rehab does. "OH." She blinks, stunned.

The big woman pulls at her fingers nervously "Yeah... didn't mean to scare you, girl. I ain't dangerous. Not anymore"

"I mean..." she recovers a grin, "congrats on finishing rehab. That takes a lot of dedication."

"No, it's...it's cool. And if you can do that, you can totally master the guitar."

"Cost me ... a lot" She says "And jail kind of makes sure you see it through. So less on me than you think but thank. Look I'll get some cash your way after I pay my rent"

"Um...yeah, but don't sweat it right now. I'll talk to Etsie, but don't worry. Keep on coming to lessons. That's important." A thought. "When do you usually take lessons with her?"

"I work weekends but she's happy to see me on Tuesdays at 8 before my schedule starts. "

Sylvi nods. "That's cool. Oh, where do you work?"

"Laundry matt ... cleaning, making sure folks don't try to break the machines for the owner that kind of thing. The pay is terrible, the hours are annoying, but they don't care about your past"

"And I guess you can practice your guitar while you're there, too."

"Well, not when the boss is around or he gives me shit" She snorts "Little people sometimes resent being little so they act small. You know what I mean?"

"Yeah, I get that. So...um...okay, I'll let you get back to it. And like I said, I'll figure it out with Etsie, and you can work it out with here from there."

"THank you. " Jenny nods "You want an escort out of here? Neighborhood gets rough"

"I think I'm good. You take care, okay?"

"I better, can't afford to break no strings" a twich of a lip that reminds her of a friends 'kind of smile'

"Uh, right." That's unnerving. "See ya."

"See you" and then the door to the ratty apartment is closed

and well, that's over

Sylvi starts on the way out of the building, but pauses before leaving to muss up her hair so it hangs a bit in her face, casting Veiled Eyes again. She learned her lesson.

And she slips past that jerk..leaving Jenny Larson to her life as wealthy (Such as it is) as she was before,

Sylvi dwells on that thought all the way back to Goldfinch.
