Hilary made landfall along the Mexican coast in a sparsely populated area about 150 miles south of Ensenada... then it made it's way towards Tijuana. It must be said that the mortal authorities were wasting no time. Beaches in the area were closed. Shelters were opened.

Few mortals knew that the faerie among them were assisting as well. Behind the scenes, or quite brazenly.

The Countess of Fenix and the Duke of Baja had taken command and directed and approved various ways of caring not just for Kithain, but Kinain and yes, their dreamers!

And Jessica is busy! Alas, a lot of it is delegation, but her holding is a constant beehive of reports, updates, and requests. Diego's forethought works well, and Father V and the Steward take center point in making sure folks get to havens of all sorts. During tragedy, there are always vultures. And Jessica gets word of dross thieves and other criminals. Some folks fear for their dreamers.

There's no time for courtly rulings on that, and her thanes and knights are spread thin.

"Could we maybe double up Dreamers? Like... if they're in shelters, we could put.... all our eggs in one basket, I guess, make it easier to safeguard them?"

Demos says "It might be a bigger prize for the bold, but you're right, easier to protect."

"Doable" Sir Jack nods. The Liam street knight has been at the thick of things "Duff's warehouse maybe? I know he doesn't always listen but the man can defend"

"Is it set up as a safe shelter?"

"Yes. He's been working with Father V too." Jack says

"Well. Yes, ok then. If it's safe."

Johnny Twofeathers, the nunehi consultant, comes in intruding "Countess... Jessica. This is important"

Coy arches a brow "It's all important, Johnny."

Twofeathers isn't a local nunnehi, he's of a South eastern tribe in Concordia, but he's helped make headway with Fawn's aid ,and now? Now he looks stunned, "No no, you don't understand. The prisoners... they're ready to swear. As long as you set them free to go help their people. The invaders are caught off guard. They're in danger. They want to go make sure they can be helped. To warn them to move before more flooding clears them out of their hidden hide away"

Jessica knows that Otem's people have high ground, but the mainlanders? Wherever they set up, it may not have that advantage

"Is the Oath ready??" she's been asking for a draft for sometime.

The draft is ready, though up to now the prisoners have largely been refusing because of the part where they agreee never to make war again period.

War against Jessica's western Fae, at least. War against her people; it's not her intention to get caught up in internecine fighting.

And the new version agrees with never ever making war on the Baja Pensula or this Duchy. They tried to refuse that too. Now it looks like they changed their mind

"Diego, can we help them help thier own?"

Note the Oath applies to those who are prisoners, not those still loose.

Diego chuckles "Why did I know you'd say that? "

She shrugs helplessly.

"Between ourselves AND our Nunehi allies, helping our enemies might break our supplies" Diego frowns "I do have some extra water and a few blankets, but I mean that litterally in 'few'"

"Ok. Hold on to those for now. Let's get the text of the Oath and make sure they understand it."

"Agreed. I'm not above taking advantage of someone or tricking them, but coercian goes against my anarchist leanings" Diego says "Are we oathing and releasing them now?"

"I suggest you do.. if they can't be released to find and help their fellows they'll change their mind" Johnny says "Now or never as they say"

"Yes, but at least let's send them out with some personal supplies. Food and water and .... stuff, ok? Diego, can you get that while Johnny and Otem and I talk to them?"

"I'm sure Rosalita and Maria have a few goods they can ship in" Diego nods "Good luck, Jessica" And he heads off

(Assuming they have the Oath, and then Jess approves or makes any changes....)

"Let's go." She leads the way to the prisoners.

In an admitedly anticlimatic fashion, this time, the Mainland Nunnehi agree to the oath. They'll never make war again on the Pennsula. They won't encourage war here either. They will leave and not return.

"Mmm.... no." she lines that last part out and changes it "You are welcome to return in peace, but it's not a requirement."

"Peace is not a requirement?" One says confused

"She means we don't have to stay away as long AS we come in peace"

"Yes." she adjusts the wording.

"And you cannot decide to come in peace, then attack" Otem adds

"That would be acting false." Jessica agrees "And my people will not attack you."

They listen to the words again, then swear. They want out to save their people, warn them of the coming storm

"Diego is bringing some supplies; not a lot, but some food and water and such." she says after she has witnessed all the Oaths. "And tell your people, your leaders, that after the storm I would welcome the opportunity to help your people recover."

The oaths settle in sinking into them. They can be binding yes, but there is also certainty in an oath.

A few hiss at her, some curse. But most seem numb. And one or two look to listen

"Ah....." the supplies arrive and she sees them distributed "Diego, Otem, will you see our guests outside and if we can, home safetly?"

"I will see to it..." Otem says and says something in the native tongue to those who have sworn. They frown, but more than a few look..ashamed and not for the oath

Diego says "Right..I'll go with him. Jessica... but you know what? When this is done. I'm breaking out the GOOD wine and treating myself" By good he means great

She chuckles. "I would encourage you in that, Diego. Stay safe."

And out they go into the rains and worse
