"Ok." but it's reluctant.

He stops "Jessica, Do You prefer we skip this?"

"No! No, just... the concept of sacrifice means so much, it's so central to the local Nunnehi identity.... and.... spam?"

"If you say so....."

He ponders "I think if we slaughter actual pigs and rabbits the pooka would protest. "

"And if we got them from a butcher shop or grocery store?"

"Well, then unlike the spam with the red jello stuff in them they won't 'bleed' ceremonially I don't imagine"

"But if you prefer... I can arrange it. The pooka know we eat meat, many of them do too, they can be hypocritical like that"

"I mean... it's not like we wouldn't -CHECK- and make sure live animals were... you know, -JUST- animals."

Diego ponders this, "Sounds like you think they deserve live animals for sacrifice after all. Am I reading you right?"

"Deserve?" she shrugs "Do we deserve live flowers and decorations and drinks and songs for the holiday?"

"Jessica, I'm assuming your question is meant to be rhetorical?"

"You see my point, though?"

"I'm not sure I agree on the equivlency... but... Two feathers tells me there is something else you could do to honor them. We'd have to do it outside the hold, because changeling blood can't be spilled in it. NO one would tolerate that. But we could set up a small shrine of sorts nearby, and you and Otem could each do a safe ritualistic cut into your flesh, bleed a bit on it, and honor the traditions that way. I HATE the idea, I think it's dangerous in that some one might use blood against you but it IS an option and they'd be surprised and delighted. THAT would be a great sacrifice, two leaders bleeding for the land"

He makes a face at the whole notion. Clearly spam sacrifice was fine with him

Diego looks ready to be a bit snarky, then catches himself, and gently says "No . It wouldn't. If you prefer a leader of theirs who is less romantically appealing to drive the point home, it would be your choice. But no, there's no matrimonial or even romantic tie implied. Mind you, that priestess get up would likely be appreciated to really 'sell it' but I know that makes you uncomfortable. " He is tempted to say more, or ask more, but shakes his horns "I'm sorry, I sometimes forget you are unfairly under a lot of pressure to 'find someone' and I failed to take that into full consideration when I mentioned this option. "

"It's fine." absently, and she seems to take him at his word on the matter. "And you're right about the ritual robes; I'll wear them."

Now, I think you have nothing to be ashamed of. your body is toned not just from your kith's gifts but hard work and discipline and that should be a source of pride. But ... you are my friend and if it makes you miserable than a honorable legal work around is no shame"

Yeah, she's a bit lavender. "That would... yes, please."

"I'll get the sash of flowers, a large one..." he nodss "And I'll switch the ceremony. We may have spam for a week after the holiday as it's already been ordered, but that should go quickly"

"Gracias. I'll make sure it's away from the main area and secluded enough you won't have to encounter it yourself. "Amused "I know you're not a fan of the character Yesica. Though really, her character growth has been amazing"

"I'm sure it has." mostly muttered.

A chuckle he can't help, but a soft one, and he heads off

Jess knows well enough to stay out of the way; Beltaine needs her, but not just now.

It's actually impressive how well her people work. Even with the change of routine to accommodate the Nunnehi, the thanes, the messengers, the cooks, the various decorators ... all of them are pure hustle and coordinated hustle at that. Even the pooka , while they joke around verbally, do the actual work seriously.

So Jess will go visit with the Balefire.

Jess nods with good humor. "Me too. So I'm going to sit out of the way." and she does.
