"Yes, just a mission of sorts he's got to do alone'

"Ok. Think he will tell us about it later?"

"Probably, now Adam... are you still blaming magic for what happened with Minerva?"

His smile fades. "Uh. No. Not magic."

"But you blame yourself. And this seems to make you think you shouldn't use magic. Am I right on that?"

"I wish I could have done something to help her. The Baroness and all said I couldn't. Fine. Doesn't mean I don't wish it was different. I've never been that good at magic anyway, why not just focus on my strengths?"

"Because going straight to 'I surrender to my weakness' rather than trying to strengthen up is beneath you"

Teen pride bristles. "That's not what I'm doing."

"If it's not, it's a really good impersonation of it. 'I've never been good at magic anyway , why not just focus on my strengths'? How is that not like skipping leg day at the gym because you think biceps are more fun?"

"Skipping leg day doesn't drop a stack of weights on anyone." He points out.

"No, it just means that because you couldn't 'race to someone's rescue' before, now you're going to give up on racing...ever"

"It isn't a good idea. It's a -bad- idea. But you're the coach. You want me running into walls, I run into walls." Adam shrugs grimly.

"Know too many coaches that want you going into the game with that attitude about it?"

"Some. Bastards, mostly."

"Well, my parents, both sets, were married. So..." A shrug

Adam sigh. "Not -you.-" Loyally.

A chuckle "I know. " thne he sobers and says gently as he can "Adam, you feel your screw up with magic cost a life.. I dis agree, but I can't MAKE you see it. But isn't that more reason to get efficnet at it? At one time or another , even the axe hapiest troll warrior has to use a cantrip."

Adam nods reluctantly.

"one day, you're going to have to hopscotch to leap to someone's side or the like. Just like I, despite my curse, had to learn a little about fighting"

"Yes, Sir." Without real commitment.

BIC: A sigh "Well, we've mastered feigned agreement. Now... realms" And he teaches Adam more in that area.

Adam endures the lesson.

He's actually grateful for his mother to butt in "Hey I.. oh, Sir Magnus. I'm sorry. I've intruded"

His mom is dressed nicely something about it screams.. teacher?

"Hey mom." He has that look.

"Quite all right, Brenda. Oh you look smashing" Magnus says

"Thank you" She assures

"I was just about to head to the farm with Earl. I am volunteering at their new school but wanted Adam to know I was fine and all that. Adam are you okay with eating here?"

"Yeah, mom. I eat here all the time."

"I figured" She nods and ruffles his hair , then looks to Magnus "How's he doing?"

Adam suffers the indignity with an eye roll.

"oh, about how I expected" Magnus says

"Did we finish, Sir?"

"For today" He says

"Well, then you can walk me to Sir Earl" His mom says

"But I was going to..... yes, mom." he agrees.

They walk, and his mom says "You sure your lessons are going okay?"

"Most? " A brow "Adam, you know, if you ever want to talk your dad and I ARE on your side right? And we're fellow students at some of this stuff"

"Yeah. Thanks."

"Ookaay" She says "Your sister is learning at thie school, want me to pass anything onto her?"

"TEll her hi. And give her a noogie."He grins.

A laugh "Well, she'll certainly know it's you. Very proud of all the hard work you're doing here. everyone tells your dad and i how hard you work" She gives her boy a hug and then joins Sir earl who is waiting

Earl nods to him, and then takes her hands. They vanish in a swirl of glamour

Adam nods gravely to Earl, entrusted with the care and safe passage of his mother.

Then he scuffs along the hallway, meandering.

Of course.. what happened next would make an attack by dark magic animated armor in an En Suite looked tame...
