August nods. "It seems a fitting penalty."

"I would say so," A nod "Baron August , I'm glad you called me in on this. Some Autumn people, they don't KNOW, on a thinking level, the harm they do. But this.. this fellow" A snort "he knows and thrives on it. It's possible the folks may not move back to this apartment but by the time we're done they'll have a better one"

"I grateful for your assistance." He returns. "I am still unused to and untested by the system."

"Even if it goes well, it's not going to be pretty." he admits "Stalling tactics galore, judges who act like doing their job is interfering with their golf time, and a jury selection that is so obviously cherry picked on both sides it may cause you to lose a little faith. "

"I can be strong. The lady has lost more than she should ever know."

"Well, it's damn kind of your friend to put her and her daughter up in the apartment" He says

"He is a good heart." August agrees quietly.

"I'd like to keep you on the paper work side of things, August. It's..ah going to get ugly so close to an Autumn person in Court, and you're an Arcadian"

"True" A nod "No doubt, and a fine tradition of helping mortals it has, but I'm arleady not your wife's favorite person, Baron. If you get undone, even temporarily on my watch, I'll have that redheaded lioness breathing down my neck so hot and fast the hairs back there will burn and curl"

August blushes a little. "I could speak with her....."

"I've done this before, and if I start to feel overwhelmed I have a kinian partner to tag team with" he assures "if you must be in court to observe, please, let me put you off to the side a bit at least?"

He nods. "I have no wish to be undone. I'm not sure I will take all of law school, or take the bar, or practice.... but I know I can help."

"oh sure, put it that way. .Is sidelining you a touch really goi8ng to make you want to be a lawyer less?"

"Not at all; I can recognize my limits. And as I said l, I have not yet been tested by the system, only the academics."

"Mm well, you might be on the edge of the loop but you will still be in it, " A nod "World needs more men who care involved in the law and I do want you to learn"

"You're too kind , but save that when we win and get these poor folks their rightful due" A smile "not that i won't enjoy it"

August pours it himself. "May I bend your ear on another topic?"

"Of course" he nods "Sadly a lot of legal doings are on the hurry up and wait type. So it's good to step back. What's on your mind?"

"I think I have an understanding, but would you outline for me the Right of Rescue as regards Chrysalids vs. Mortals?"

He raises a brow "I admit, that is a shift I did not expect. "

"As a rule, the right of rescue does not traditionally apply to mortals at all. Only your own house, and a few rare likeminded sorts, apply the right of Rescue to mortals in any fashion at all. Now, clearly, as a boggan, I am prone to a soft heart to help mortals in need, but I do not think of the right of rescue when I do it. Now there are those who say the right to Dream requires a bit of rescue..."

"Facilitation."

"Well, you know the words as well as I, better I imagine 'The Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve have the right to dream unhindered by Fae needs. The Dreaming will die if we steal directly from the font. No one is allowed to manipulate the creative process with Glamour. While the fae may inspire creativity, it is forbidden to instruct or infuse humans with Glamour.'.. the Right to Dream. But the 'right to dream unhindered' part tends to encourage inaction, not action. Add that to the right of ignorance, and it certainly dims the right of rescue attachment. HOWEVER, if a changeling's actions endangered the dreaming capacity of a mortal, there might be an arguement rescue was right and proper. Clearly Ravaging is wrong, it ruins it for us all, not just the mortal and the criminal changeling. There are some , mostly Seelie, who beleive if you see a Ravager you are OBLIGATED to intrude then and there, not just the nearest noble. And I don't have to tell you how who is ruling a fief often filters how each tenent is enforced"

Adam nods. "Yes." A sip of tea. "If one encounters a Far soul in a mortal body that slumbers, there is an obligation. And if the soul, ah, does not awake? Even with an infusion of Glamour.... the Escheat still applies?"

"Still a changeling, albeit one that might be in more danger than we thought" A frown "Riddled with banality is he or she?" Worried

"Let us say, hypothetically speaking, no."

Boggans have impressive eyebrows, some even have 'double brows'. So the lawyer's launch into his forehead at this "I've never heard of such a situation. Well, it sounds similiar to a coma patient in a hospital then. He or she is still a person and their life has value so you watch and try to help them. The escheat should apply to even one with a buried soul. So said individual might have a right to haven, rescue and more... but it would be balanced against the right of ignorance oddly as the mortal half was dominant. Your lady, ruler here, would have the final say for such an individual but I would say helping him or her is almost required and yes the escheat applies"

August nods thoughtfully. "Thank you. Is there much law or lore regarding the arrival of a Sidhe soul, and its embodiment? What are its rights?"

"Sidhe complicate things" he sighs "Traditionalists claim that a sidhe life is worth even more than a regular kithain soul, for the arcadian soul might come by but once. obviously, most of we commoners do not agree with that view"

"But everyone agrees that a sidhe arrival should be given full rights of rescue... it's a returned refugee from Arcadia after all"

August nods. "A mortal Dreamer's right would be supplanted by a returning Sidhe's right." A statement that is really a question.

"Do you know that the mortal was a dreamer?"

"I know. The Sidhe soul in question would be unlikely to know. Hypothetically. "

"Of the nature of sidhe souls returned, I do not claim to fully understand what they go through. How can I? But I can tell you now that in this case, the sidhe soul would have priority. Not only is the sidhe soul in need of rescue even as it arrives... it can be argued that the mortal's right to dream was not violated, but rather enhanced, for he or she is now in the Dreaming. What could inspire more? The unhindered by fae needs? You have to prove a hinderance to the soul's ability to dream. Others might disagree, I see it as a tragedy to lose a dreamer, but about 90 % of Nobles and 50% of commoners would stare at you like you were crazy if you tried to charge an arriving sidhe soul for a 'crime' by taking a body, even the body of a dreamer. "

August nods. It seems he is not making any argument so much as exploring different ones.

"now you have me intrigued and I must warn you, speculating on law without all the facts is a gamble. What am I advising you about?"

"Woiuld there be a reasonable expectation that a slumbering Fae, mostly mortal, would recognize the arrival of a Sidhe soul for what it is?"

August asks one last question.

"is the mostly mortal somehow enchanted during this?"

"Yes. Hypothetically."

He gives the sidhe a LOOK, "It's borderline unethical for me to give you slap dash advice on hypotheticals that I suspect aren't but I'll do it anyway. If the enchanted not mortal not awake fae has been educated in how sidhe arrive before this, it may remove any excuse he'd have but the case can be made he did not understand. In that case... blame, and possibly punishment if someone decides punishment is due, might fall instead on his mentors"

A sigh. "Hm."

"Or it might not.. hypothetically this would be a matter almost without precedent"

"Baron, you realize that after this, if you don't tell me what's going on, I'm going to pester your steward and every other boggan in the place now for gossip?"
