August nods and offers the lad his hand. "I want to be sure you have the right knight to serve. Thank you for understanding. Will you tell Tylar I'd like to speak with him?"

"Sure sure, thanks" He turns and heads over to Tylar "Tylar, I'm getting a Fiona, isn't that boss?" //"Boss? Who says that?" //"I do, you have to speak old timey around a court. Oh, Sir August wants to see you"//" Oh, how's my hair?" //"Stringy and sad."//"It is not." Tylar protests and checks his hair and comes over, "Sir, you wanted to see me?"

He offers the boy a smile. "Thank you for your patience about all this. Events.... overtook. I'd like to know, Tylar, what you're looking for; what are your goals?"

"well, sir, I hope to be a squire, but if you mean interwoven in that or longer term?"

"Both." Serious, but in good-humor.

"I.. I hope to learn enough about how to fight to defend those who need me, people in my community. In the stories, boggans , well, folks like boggans, are the ones who always call for heroes. I don't know if I'd ever be a hero, but" A deep breath "I'd like to need one less because I can help more. I'd like to learn courtly ways and be a gent. I'd like to study fae lore, there's so much we ignore. I might never be the ideal kknight, but I hope one day to be the best most well rounded I can be. I want to serve a great sidhe house if it will have me, and serve an honorable ruler. I want to uphold the good, but at the same time, I don't think it's a sin to want to help myself while doing it if I prove worthy. Does ambition make me bad, sir?"

"Not at all." Gently.

"Thank you Sir" He says "May I ask what you're looking for in a squire?"

He sighs. "Well.... again, I wasn't looking for a squire." Wryly. "But I think I'd be looking for someone to help me with my duties at Court, and serve the people of the Fief."

"Oh" His face falls a bit

"Well, now, I've thought about it since. It... it might not be a bad idea. I guess. My House.... it does put some people off."

"Yes sir, Liam is the Oathbroken House, because King Liam broke a sacred rule of hospitality,' He pauses, "Which suprises me, Lady Fiona had her own crime and wasn't punished nearly so harshly."

August nods gravely. "How do -you- feel about that? Serving an Oathbroken knight?"

'I expect some folks will scorn me for it, but ...sir, you're not a boggan, you don't know what it's like somedays. I think somedays I'd rather face scorn than be invisible. If nothing else, it would be a new challenge."

A gentle smile, like sun on your face. "That's a very positive way to look at it, Tylar." He sighs, thinking. Lines appear on his forehead. "Very well, fair enough, but let me ask..... if there were anyone at EarthRunes you could serve, not -just- me.... please be honest. Who would you prefer?"

He considers "In truth sir? I think I might pick you anyway. I've been studying the Houses. Liam are among the most directly helpful, mortals, dreamers mostly, but often they are the ones least protected in the Fae world and we need them whether we want to admit it or not." he considers "But then, I don't know the others as well so I might be missing another obvious match." He considers "you're trying to find placces for us, arent' you?"

A small smile. "Yes."

"Are you still planning on taking one of us sir? I ..don't mean to be rude, but it feels more like a dodge if you're not going to take one yourself but push us towards others. And that's... well, I'd be disappointed in you if that was the case, sir."

He nods gravely. "I am planning to take a squire, yes. At the same time, I want to make sure it's the right fit for both of us, and that all of you have a chance to find that right fit."

"Thank you, Sir. I ...that's very chivalrous of you, but, if I fail in your eyes to be worthy of being a squire period, then please don't hestiate to say so. I do not wish to be a burden to any good knight" He says somberly

"It would be unworthy of me to forward you for the position, if you were, in turn, not worthy. However, I don't think that will be an issue." He offers his hand. "Thank you, Tylar. I need to think, and I might ask someone else to speak with you. Would that be acceptable?"

The young boggan takes his hand and shakes it in that way that young men do trying to impress older men. A bit stronger than needed, but not in challenge. "Of course, Sir August. Thank you. Should I get a position as a squire, I hope to see you about while performing my duties:"

"I'm sure of it. Thank you." When the boggan is gone, August takes a long walk in the garden, thinking. Then he goes to his study to write two notes; one to Zara, and one to Dame Agencourt, respectfully asking each to interview on his behalf their kithmate, and to speak with him after about their individual suitability as a squire for him.

Then he goes in search of either Coradel or Magnus.

Magnus is having a drink at Jack's, "Got anything that will thicken blood, Jack? I maybe donating... a lot"

August still hesitates at the door, but then enters.

"What an I get for you, August?" Jack says

"Oh, ah, water please." He enters. "Magnus, do you have a moment?"

"for the nonce,s ure" He smiles "What's up?"

Water is served "Didn't used to have to carry this stuff" Jack comments as he hands it over

"Thank you." He takes but doesn't drink, setting it down. "Magnus, have you ever considered taking a squire?"

He tilts his head back and laughs "Hahahahahaha" then he looks at his father "Oh god, you're serious aren't you?"

August nods. Seriously.

"Dad, I don't need a squire, I'm getting a wife"

"Oh, I'm so tellling her that"Jack says

"Don't you dare," Mangus tells the satyr

"Magnus....." Warning and aghast.

"What I mean is, my hands are very full planning on pleasing the woman I love. Shouldn't I spend my extra time with my bride and not whatever kid is looking for squire dom?"

"Well." August nods with a shrug. "Of course, I don't know what your plans are immediately after the wedding but.... I wanted to ask. Is it the timing, or the idea itself?"

"Yes" He says "To be honest, August, if I weren't getting married I'd probably be looking for an excuse. Squires are, look, Colton is a great kid, for example, fine wilder. But I'm not a warrior diplomat like sis. I'm an investigator sorcerer, and most squires want weapons training and the like. You may recall I don't use swords?" A bit of a frown "My work is often best done solo, and as for teaching? Well, most young scrappers aren't going to want to follow my line"

August presses his lips together and nods. "Fair point. Not really far off what I've been saying, actually. I've talked to the childlings that were interested, and I think two would be better fits elsewhere but.... once I have more on the other two, would you consider talking to them?"

"Who do you have in mind?" He says sipping his own drink but still cautious. "For me, I mean"

August shakes his head. "I'd thought perhaps young Bazyl, but if you don't see yourself as a knight for one with aspirations of combat and battle, then perhaps Velvet or Tylar."

"Bazyl? Mmm I can see why a Fiona would be fitting for him ordinarily" He says a thought occurs to him, but he smiles and waves it off, then 'Velvet and Tylar? Well, I don't have your rapport with sluagh, but I try not to stick my nose up at any kith. But we do come back to the fact I don't want a squire. Why are you so eager to get me one?"

"Why was anyone so eager to get -me- one?"

"Probably because it's the most placid ponds folks want to lob rock off" He answers
