Sylvi grins and nods. "I'll go help SallyMae, unless you want me somewhere else?"

"Nope, she'll be happy to see you" Clem says "Go get em, Davidson"

A grin "I should say Davidson - DeBuke. You're in both"

"Remember, they are the minority." Zara reassures.

A smile. "Thanks, Chief." A quick wave, and she's jogging towards the kitchen.

"I shall keep an eye."

"Zara, you got your own life and.. I promise, I'll even give Earl back" Clem says

"For now? "She takes her friend gently by the shoulder "The tea's on me" And leads her off for a private tea. Not usually her thing, but someone has earned it

Agnes stands up, glaring at the cane she seems to still need.

And she looks at hte kitchen, HER Kitchen.

The sluagh is quietly mincing. Very easy to ignore.

Sylvi pauses in washing dishes. "Hearth Agnes!"

Sally Mae turns surprised "Granny Agnes? You're out of bed?"

"How's the meal coming?" SHe raises a brow

"Fine, it's.. it's a california style platter... avacadoes and more..." Sally Mae says "Some things I learned how to improve while I was cooking for Piper.. she's .."

a hand up from the old woman to forestall "I know of her"

Sylvi bites her lip, watching from one to the other.

"Well, she's a nice young lady" Sally Mae says

"Is any of this grown on our own farm?" The old woman frowns "From our own hands?"

Sylvi looks concerned. "H-Hearth Agnes, can I get you a chair, or something to eat?"

"A chair would be fine" THe old woman says waiting for Sally Mae's response

"Corn Meal, of our making, is in the bread. I mixed it with some coconut with a touch of pineapple"

Sylvi goes out into the dining hall and brings back a good chair, putting it down near Hearth Agnes.

The old woman sits but her eyes look on the food "Very California indeed. May I ask why?"

"If you mean why am I cooking, I thought they'd be hungry..." she says

"You're sassing me?" Agnes scowls

Sally Mae inhales "No, maybe a bit, but.. what do you want me to do? explain ever reason for every dish?"

"As a hearth, you need to.. you got to know what folks want.. and in these times they'll want comfort food" Agnes says "Get too exotic it'll just make them think too manythings are changing"

"I thought about that" Sally Mae says, putting things just so, "Almost did make your famous gravy and bicsuits"

Sylvi swallows and goes back to washing dishes...and listening in.

"Well why didn't you?" Agnes demands

Zara glances up.

"Because it would have been a mistake" Sally Mae says, causing the old women to stiffen, but before Agnes can cut in, "It'd be a mistake, because at the time everyone was worrying about you, sick to worrying, scared that you weren't going to make it, the last thing I need to do was remind them how NO One cooks those better than you . The last thing I needed to do was feed their sense of helplessness when I was supposed to fill their bellies." A beat " I know what I'm doing."

Sylvi grins at that. Good thing she's facing the sink so Agnes can't see.

Anges raises a brow at that, then mmms and finally "The gravy and biscuits is NOT that hard to do"

"Um...Hearth Agnes?" Sylvi raises her hand. "Even my mom can't quite do them like you do."

"Even so, they'd be different."

"mm, that's high praise from you, Sylvi" Agnes says "My tahnks" Then to Zara "Well, I'm sure folks would understand that"

"But would they be comforted?"

"Mmmm" Agnes says. Because that's easier for a grump to say than admit a point sometimes.

Sally Mae actually smiles a bit, knowing exactly Mmmm means just that.

Agnes says "Sally Mae, they tell me this sidhe isn't using you, or hurting you, or making you do...."

Sally Mae turns at that and gapes at her elder "No. He isn't."

Agnes frowns "There were kithain, even trolls that were bespelled with the sidhe returned. Some sampled freely for the novelty of trying out 'autumn trolls' out"

Sylvi flinches and focuses back on washing dishes."

Sally Mae says "Carowyn would never do that. Never."

"I imagine no one would with the Chieftain Shacklebrekker nearby but I ken you," Agnes sighs "Most sidhe didn't. But oh, how they closed ranks when one of their own was accused"

Sylvi says, "Um...do you mean, you're worried that even if he's doing the right thing, Carowyn might side with other sidhe if they ask him to?"
