The fourth of July was a successful night for the Club! CC and the other performers looked marvelous in the patriotic outfits that harkened to the USO of WW2, and the costumer that was hired was excellent! Delightfully over the top, the audiance actually felt whisked away from modern concerns and angst!

The big band like effect was not easy to pull off, but they did it. As for the food? Well, Emerson had his own ideas on how to make that period but still varied.

Finally the show does end and folks go home for the night. Some for fireworks or very late concerts, others just to get some sleep.

Stodgepole locks up the front door after the last patron leaves and the staff go about their closing sidework and duties.

CC comes out, still wearing a patriotic hat, "Well, that went well, lover" A smile "I think I had the crowd ready to fight the axis there"

"An excellent message for the year and the times, my Dearest." he agrees.

"Thank you, ready to go home?"

"I think so." He tells hugh to oversee the final lock up for the day, and to make sure everyone gets out to their transportation safely, and offers Callidora his arm. "When you're ready."

She takes it, and they get into their car

And off home they go.

Well, youd' think so... they are heading home, but as fate would have it

THUMP

They just bumped against something on the road

Scurrying by, there's a carriage, no driver, no horses, and seemingly no engine... that flickers into view before them heading down a road

"By a Brownie's Balls!!" William exclaims as he adjusts expertly against the collision "Where did that come from!!?!?"

"No idea" she says "And not like we can read a plate" She looks annoyed "It's chimerical. Let's go after it, I've got things to say to whoever is inside"

A snort, and William accelerates "I might go beyond the verbal if the odds are right...." he growls.

"I might get pom poms just to cheer you on" She admits

William attempts to get in front of it, with room to get it stopped.

For a moment, he almost has it, but it doesn't seem to care that there is danger, and at the last moment, weaves left... Emerson is good enough to keep control besides getting nudged again, and now the two vehicles are side by side again...

And before them, at this new vector / angle, they see before them shimmering lights of pure glamour in a myriad of forms.

Both CC and Emerson have been around long enough to recognize this is a Chryalis in the distance

"Whoever it is, they're trying to get to that Dream Dance" A sigh "I hope it's not a childling. You hate when we find childlings. I get it, I'm a grandmother of several, no need for more kids"

"Do we chase it, then? Or go home?"

"Chase it, if only to mess with them" She hurmphs

still bitter about getting sideswiped

So he does; in fact, he tries to outpace the carriage, focusing on arriving at the Dream Dance first.

WELL ahead.

Flooring it, and locking in his kenning. he races towards the emerging kithain. It is NOT a childling, thank goodness, but a grown man. Around him, masks spark and seem to fly withhout support, costumes appear and vanish

The man looks familiar...

"That's the guy I hired to be our emergency Costume artist" CC blurts

He had done a marvelous job on short notice

The Nocker staggers like a drunkard

CC calls out to Emerson, "Okay, pull up next to him, we open the door, and invite him in, or do you just want to brute force grab him?"

"Emergency Costume Artist!??!!" this may be the first he remembers hearing of this hire. "What.....!?"

Meanwhile, he does his best to pull up next to him, so Callidora can do whichever seems best.

"The regular one couldn't make it. How do you think arranged all those USO uniforms on short notice? We didn't do July 4th LAST Year so..."

Emerson moves to pull up to the guy, the ground tears a bit too much... and then... the Carriage plows into the backside of Emerson, causing it to hit a tree! His car is now stuck

And the carriage opens a door before the startled nocker! A whip lashes out...

CC listens to the sound of the whip like device, "Black Mamba Mistress 3.7? Or is it an Emerald Empress Deluxe? " A shake of her head, "No, custom job."

And the whip is grabbing the nocker who is cursing up a storm

"Emerson, got any ideas?" She asks as he's fighting an airbag

He stabs the airbag with a thin little razor sharp blade that appears in his hand as if by magic, and fumbles with his free hand for the door latch as he mutters vile curses and promises.

He pops loose and gets out, CC follows her lead, that hat pin coming handy and goes out the other side.
