He's not just speaking of Caesar

"Well. We do the best we can; they'll collect their own bumps and bruises along the way." Resigned.

A sip "Aye."

"And until the bitter end, they have us." He offers a toast.

"Hear Hear" he clinks the shot glass against the boggan's smaller one

"I take it you do not object to Miss CC and Caesar visiting there at the Farmhold? Miss April and May might prefer other environs but I know they would like to stay in touch with Miss June and her child."

"I worry about May mostly... she's got a lot of... frustration in her heart. Some of that's on us, some of it's on the world. Some of it's just her own nature. April? Well, an education is rarely worthless and botany in non agriculture botony can still reap many fine things. June's with us, true, and likely will be. Unless Caesar and June are having some spat I don't know about, I don't see June denying him." A shake of his head at something "But I believe the Chieftain is fine with Caesar and CC visting. " A look at the man "I Notice you don't ask for the same open door."

A slight smile. "They aren't my grandchildren. If CC is happy.... I am."

"Truth to tell, Emerson, I think you'd be the one we'd worry about. Of course, you're also the one I'd probably enjoy drinking the most with. Two old sinners we. You know what Mark Twain said?"

"Many things." Archly.

"One I was thinking of was this: Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company." a grin

"Oh, hear hear." He sips again. "How do you mean, I would be the one you'd worry about?"

"I have reason to believe you don't much care for the nobility either, and might have made some enemies. You know how it is, when you let a man into your house, the eyes of his enemies tend to follow" a pause "Please, don't tell me how you're actually a loyalist. I have enough disappointment in my life"

Emerson rolls the drink in his glass. "I've heard it said that a life is not lived unless one makes a few enemies. I would hate to disappoint you, Emmitt. I will take precautions, should I be invited to join you at the farm."

"I appreciate it. Now... " He leans forward and whispers"How the hell do you have a hold I can barely sense when I'm less than five yards from it's rath, you sly dog?"

A wide eye. "Why Mr. DeBuke..... whatever do you mean?" Faux innocence.

"My 'bad' as the kids used to say... I must be having a senior moment" A sip "And please, it's Emmit. Just plain old Emmit. "

Plain ole.. mmph unlikely. THe veil on that rath is hard enough for SLUAGH to find, this man sensed it? He's definitely a sorcerer

"Indeed." Sip.

Amused.

"That said, any place those kids might spending time in, would surely have my blessing... or whatever else I could grant to help with security" AN offer

"I thank you! I'm not in a position to accept such offers, here or at my hotel room." Regretfully. "We might speak with Miss CC on this."

"Well, she should be on any moment....."

CC saunters in, dress flowing, "Am I being talked about? I certainly hope so."

Emmit stands "Young Lady, you look ravishing"

"Oh, she is." Emerson likewise stands and greets her. "Miss CC....." pulling back her chair. Not 'Dearest'....

He motions for a glass for CC as well.

She takes the seat "So kind of you to say. Both of you" A smile "How goes the chat?"

"I think we are reaching an understanding."

"Oh? Does it include me making little booties for my grandkids?" CC smiles "I adore little booties"

"I believe it does, yes. Emmitt has agreed you and Caesar should be able to visit." Sip.

"Truly, unless June says otherwise I can't see any moral leg to stand on to deny a father or grandmother" Emmit says "We are a paranoid lot I should tell you. I do hope our ..indepdent stance against the status quo won't alarm you?"

"Oh I have heard tales" CC says

"And.. we'll adapt, Caesar and I" she assures

He chuckles.

"Ah, on that note.... Emmit has offered protection for such areas as are likely to be needed. Houses and such, I thought."

"Oh? Interesting. I.. think that is a very wise idea"

"I didn't want to speak for you."

"I appreciate that, Mr. Stodgepole" She says then looks to Emmit "however can you help sir?"

"Wards are not beyond my abilities" He says eying her "And I suspect both of you had a feel for same when you visited"

Emerson nods. "Masterfully done."

"Potent" she says

Emerson puts a small smile in his glass, hiding it.

"Mm you two butter me up any more, they're gonna rename me toast, but thank you" he chuckles "I suspect I'm not the only one here with a bit of training" His eyes drift towards the rath "Masterful potent training at that"

"Mmmmm. I think he wants a peek, Miss CC."

She raises a brow, perhaps asking Bill 'how much should I show'?

An expressive gesture suggests 'As much as you want him to see....."

CC pulls out a deck of cards from no where. He looks amused but nods for her to go on. She sorts the cards flips a queen of diamonds, flips it back and it's a Tarot card, the Chariot. He raises a brow. She flips again and the cards start coming up in impossible patterns. Then she says "Pick a card, any card"
