The rooms are similar enough - old worn carpet and yellowed paint and fading wallpaper. But one - but ONE has a windowseat.

"DIBS!" She shouts for the benefit of downstairs.

"Well, then I want it," Les calls out just to be a jerk.

her father just comes up to join her, and smiles as he sees the Windowseat, "Let me guess, it's the FUng Scwhay of the place or however you say it?"

She blows a raspberry at her brother.

Les peeks in smirks, and goes back to the other room. HIS won't have a windowseat.

She opens up the window, gauging the leap to the tree outside.

She could make it! She could miss it.

Her dad points out "We might be able to build a rope bridge too?"

She does have wings... that only work in her animal form. Technicalities!

"Or maybe a crane, not the bird kind, to lift you up."

Her dad ponders "Or we could ask Les to throw you like a lawn dart, but I don't think that one is wise."

"What makes you think I'm thinking of leaping?" Innocent look.

"Probably because I remember the time you tried to fly with those two kites each one on a different arm.... "

He does not go into what age she was then, or the altitude she started at.

"It almost worked..."

He nods , "Your mother actually was kind of proud but couldn't tell you then because she was too busy ranting..."

"Oh, she was pooka-ly clear."

Naar is a word she learned that day! Oddly w ith a lot of panicked hugs

"I have improved plans, y'know."

"Love you, honey, but I wouldn't say they were imPROved plans, you're still an amateur in a lot of ways." Her dad tuts

"Amy-teur!"

THAT gets a laugh from her dad and he hugs her "That was a good one!"

She squeezes back. "I hate this one, please?"

"Well, that's one vote for getting this house, and your brothers both like it too so I THINK the odds are good," Her dad nods "It'l lbe a lot of work. You maybe flying around and delivering screws and tools back and forth some."

She trills in agreement.

"Okay, now we have to head back to the farmhold, but the deal is in the works and if it goes through we will start ASAP... that is to say As soon as Possible," Her dad says "You want to fly around it a bit get a lay out before we leave today? or are you ready to go?"

She clasps his hand, giving it a squeeze and shaking her head.

"Right... " he says and closes his eyes. If she doesn't turn into a bird, he knows she'd ready or willing to go back to the farm, if she DOES turn into a bird, she wants to fly.

The hand stays. And the bird stays with her papa.

And she gets HUGGED and swung around gently.

He wants to promise her this will be their home, but he dare not give an oath so freely, but he does promise "I will love you bunches and bunches until the stars go digital and beyond."

She buries her face against his shoulder, a koala ready to go home. Even if there's not quite a home yet.

Perhaps if Amity were to glance out the window, she might see a little shepherd type dog rolling on Migillicuddy's prized petunias.

The sign can't stop him if Connor doesn't read it!
