Madern works on the potato salad, not just any potato salad, that awesome recipe Marigold taught him

Not sure why he was in the mood for it. Sometimes these ideas just come out of nowhere

"Hey Art, you want some Potato Salad?"

A pause "pardon, do I need to say 'Squire' Art?" Not snide, just not sure how formal to be

Art looks up from the book he was paging through, and frowns, thoughtfully. "No, just Art is fine. Squire... technically, yes, it is a noble rank, but it's the lowest rank. Traditionally more of a job description, stating that you have been deemed worthy to wait upon thus-and-thus Knight, and become schooled in the process of Knighthood yourself. As a free squire, I am more of just... I may as not have a rank, as far as things are concerned, as there is no power nor obligation attached."

"Hey, it out ranks me" He says with a smile "Glad to have you back by the way. Not enough guys near my age here"

"Without a Knightmaster, Squire, in times after the initial Chivalric days, seems to have come to denote more of a gentleman, or landowner. I don't own any land, so... I'm just, a gentleman, I suppose, of no particular name or import."

"Potato salad? Oh, no thank you." He responds, belated, to the question.

"No worries, I can also make you a regular old sandwich? While I'm here at the counter no trouble" He ponders "Maybe you'll end up serving with Dame D'Lorean? She's squireless. So is Gladiola but that might be weird for you"

"Count Harner offered to esquire me to a Knight of his court, but I am uncertain if that is my path. De'Lorean, while a fine Knight in Lord Aiden's service, focuses on the care, husbandry and sport of horses. I have little to no inclination in that respect myself. I imagine if I DO find myself esquired in the future, it may be to a one that rides a desk, rather than a horse."

A smile at the mention of Gwen. "Similarly, I imagine that Gladiola would find a squire who does not know a poodle from a panda to be tiresome at best."

One of Art's favorite sandwich's, or at least a standby he likes, is being contructed. Ernie smirks "Poodle from a Panda eh? Yeah, that would drive her nuts. Glad you turned down Count Harner. Like I said you've been missed." A glance at the book cover "Studying up on the smoke chimera threat?"

Chime! A Never is sniffing around Madern's fixin's. And where there's one...

"Okay, it's a rainbow potato salad yes, that is not an invite to find treasure at the end of it" Mad ernie wags a finger at them as he finishes up the sandwich, puts it on a plate and brings it to Art "There you go, quick and easy."

Chime! Schiaparelli alights on Art's head. There's two red ones (different reds? maybe?) A green, a blue...

And, in turn, a purple=haired Nocker.

"Purple! That's new. Is it for the Independence Holiday?" Art sets the book down when Thistle comes in, absently brushing a hand at the Never.

"I thought it was red white and blue for that"

Schip jingles, enjoying the attention.

"Yeah, but see, I combined all three..."

"And, as a bonus, don't run the risk of being mistaken as a Republican."

A grin. "I might be biased, but I like the purple."

A flash of a grin, and happy orange spirals.

"Ooo, potato salad...."

"Do you think there is a chance that the smog may clear before the holiday? Gawain has been speaking of nothing but fireworks, but with the air quality as it is, he's not allowed out to play, and who knows if you can see any lights through the haze... I hate to see the lad disappointed."

"Yup, Pride Potato salad... " He says "Well, rainbow style"

"Rainbow salad, works." She snags a plate. "I don't know? I want it fixed. I MADE fireworks, (&&^$(*(^&^ it."

"Yeah. I'm gonna miss the bang and boom"

"That does not look like the potato salad that my hostmother prepares." He says, curiously. "Does it not come in a tub from the market? Her's is... only yellow, and in a thick sauce of some sort. It does not taste of much."

"Well this uses purple potatoes. Here, I'll put a smidge on your plate, Art. Taste it, see if it's different enough that you like it better?"

"Your mom is kinda drek as a cook, Art."

"Like, no offense?"

"Just don't use her as a baseline."

"She fills the table! There is enough to eat." He feels he must defend her, though weakly.

"She makes sure you don't starve, that's not nothing. But it's okay . No one is good at everything. Ever hear a nocker sing?" Light teasing of Thistle

"Which is very important, yes."

"Can't say that I have." A curious look to Thistle, grin playing on his lips.

"Hey!"

"I bet they make fantastic sound engineers."

"Masters of accoustic tech I bet" Madern concedes "Did you hear we may get a new troubadour?"

"A troubadour? Fancy. And furk yeah, I ran soundboard for the drama club a few times..."

"I prefer painting sets, of course."

"I thought that the Baroness had a dislike for musicians. Perhaps that was just a rumor." Frowning slightly.

The potatato salad is not just colorful, but tasty, not up to Marigold's level but it hits the spot

"There was that rooster, could be part of it?"

"Oh that's that Rooster guy, because of the song he put out.. 'Nadeen'... she gave him a bad review. I think they're looking for a less troublesome musician for our official stuff"

She taps her nose and nods at the piskie.

"You guys know anyone?"
