Professor Shana Marcy Garb blinks as she looks at the class before her. She swears some seem, lit up. Not like the others are gray, just that they, their colors are muted and she never realized.

Sam sits in the back. She always does, if she can.

Oh well, the show must go on, "Now I trust you've all read the syllabus?"

She's TALL.

Syllabus... check. Academic coach put together a whole first-day binder.

So many nods, and quiet affirmation.. and quite a few make the Gwydion wince for the lies they are. But she can't enforce that

"Wonderful," Professor Garb smiles "If there's anything you don't understand in there, let me know , my office hours are..." Then she blinks, is that girl in the back LOOMING? Not.. intimidating, just ..she seems to tall somehow she looms. For a moment she loses her train of thought.

A glance up at the pause.

Some other students shuffle too.

Then Shana catches herself, "Sorry about that. I spaced out for a moment. Now, if any of you have any questions about what you blue... read. I mean, what you read, then you just come to me. My office hours are" She repeats them "And I'll try to be there for you. "

While Pr. Garb goes on, recovering, Dagmar realizes someone is behind her. No small trick as she's in the far back. But she has someone behind her waiting. Watching.

She flicks a glance behind her.

The withered janitor is not a complete stranger. She's seen him around. And she knows a sluagh when she sees one.

When he sees she sees him, he gives a black gummed smile, then whispers "Watch her. REALLY watch her. Then, decide what you want to do"

A look back at the prof, eyes slightly narrowed.

Holy shit, under the youngish professor is a very old fae spirit writhing to awaken

Head tilt.

The kith is hard to figure out, but the energy is surprising. This woman will awaken a grump, most like, but it looks like it WILL happen at the slightest nudge, unless banality from another source intrude.

Forehead: furrowed!

and.. the sluagh is gone

Well, she's a grown-up, Right-of-Rescue has waited a bit. It can wait until the end of the class.

Professor Garb seems to have found her footing again, turning on her enthusiasm for the subject, and engaging the class. Some ARE surprised she's a REAL professor, after all she's so young compared to the gray heads some are used to.

She's not THAT old for a grump. She's, what - Vali's age?

Pretty much. Yeah, she's like..31?

SO old.

She is speaking "Some of you are still at a loss for a major, you wonder if all this learning is for nothing. Now, listen to me. No one can know it all. You're not here to KNOW everything... though there's a lot of joy in trying. The value is in comprehending what you know, in taking those facts and plumbing their worth and depth and breadth to make a better world. Albert Einstein once said “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” So don't panic if you're worried you'll never know it all. Understanding is to knowledge what gemcutting is to a gem. Understanding brings out the beauty of the knowledge, and in some ways that's where the worth of knowledge lies. Without effort to appreciate, to understand? The gem is just a fancy rock. Cut, or at least shined properly? It's a treasure"

Nod, nod.

She lights up at these words.

Then someone mutters loud enough to be heard "Better be worth something, tuition isn't cheap"

And the light dims a bit.

Snort. "You get what you put into it."

And it recharges, "Yes, thank you, " The professor says with a smile towards Sam "Sam, right?" A blink "Are... you cold, Sam?" The girl looks blue? No, I'm imaginging that.

"Sam." A nod.

"You have office hours after this, Professor?"

"Only one more class today left, but my next hour after this is free if you want" She offers.

"I'll hit your office hours, thanks."

Some things might take more than an hour, she suspects.

Wise. And the class goes on, with the professor extolling the opportunities, and stressing that education is more than rote memorization

Sam takes notes, waiting. She flashes a smile at the prof as she heads out.

And yes, class ends, folks filter out.

So... time to kill. Maybe a snack.

She knows what's going to happen this afternoon - or at least has half a notion. She'll bring Flyswatter.
