Brekke blinks and looks to Mountain and Hearth. She notes their attentive expressions. "There is something....?"

Kerri nods. "Yes, but what?"

Wooden carvings are nothing new to this place. Brekke, Tove, and Dagmar all know that craft.

Yet the three wooden birds , life sized, are new... and the design of them is very nordic celt mixed and none of the regular carvers can claim they made it. Purely chimerical wood of course. The three Birds are a Wren, A Raven, and finally a hawk.. no, a kestrel.

They are all on the same small tree like display. And woven in their feathers are the patterns of Rivervale's banner

"Ohhh..." Kerri sighs. "Oh, they're lovely!"

"They're seperate, that is, they look like they're 'on' the rack, but could come loose" Vali says

Brekke goes to look more closely. She slowly nods approval. "Very good." Trollish understatement.

Jonas is curious "But what do they do?"

Siv says "Oh Jonas, Beauty is life. They don't need to do anything" But she IS looking them over "I do have to wonder though"

Curious now, Brekke picks up the kestrel and turns it carefully.

As soon as she touches it it says "Use me to send message of love and care, and I will seek out to deliver, and return words to you. I will always find those you love, for my eyes are keen for such and my wings swift"

And then, it reverts to a frozen wooden form again

Siv quite forgets herself "That's bitchin"

"Ahh, yes." She looks to Siv. "Language. But you heard that?"

"Aye. Was I not supposed to have?"

Others heard it too.

"I think you were supposed to, and that is good."

"Why a kestrel ?" TIffany asks, pooka can ask questions straight even if their answers are muffed

Brekke gives both Frank and Siv a slight grin, then she answers Tiffany, "It is the name of the boat, you know."

"Oh yes, many a time I've hiked my leg to that fine hull" Tiffany nods sagely as if this makes total sense.

"You did not" Siv , who had been smiling at her mom's words, looks at Tiffany horrified at the thought

A raised brow.

Vali looks at his wife, "She's fibbing, she's a lady through and through"

Olgar is looking at the other two says "Chief, maybe you should touch a different one? Seems they're happy to tell you what they do."

A blink at Olgar. "I assumed they all...." Her brow furrows, and she picks up the raven.

The Raven animates and croaks "Send me to send warning, and words of caution, and to return the same. War and Woe are unpleasant, but it is more unpleasant to not have word when the are heading your way"

"So much for memory and thought" Vali observes

"I see," she murmurs, placing the raven back. "And you?" she says, picking up the wren.

The Wren perks up "Not all messages are gloom and doom, nor are all those of loved ones. Flight, activity, daily duties abound, and joy in the fluttering about of tasks. Send me when the other two will not do, and I will pass on instructions of happier duties and return word how it goes! Remember that the Wren is the King of Birds... so it is fitting I send word from the Kings"

Torin nods "it's true, the story goes that there was a bet among the birds that who ever flew highest and farthest would be declared their king. The Wren tucked itself under the eagle's wings, and then when t he eagle hit his peak, as far as he could go, only then did the Wren take flight and go further still. "

Brekke actually chuckles at that. "So it is, so it is." She sets the carving back on the tree stand and regards all three.

And they position themselves artfully

A nod to Torin. "A clever bird, indeed."

She turns back to the Balefire and gives a bow of gratitude. "Once again, you have my thanks."

The fire gives a kind of radiance that is almost trollish, modest yet not quite able to hide that it is pleased with a duty well performed

"You're gonna use this instead of texting any chance you can, aren't you?" Siv realizes

That gets some chuckles... and folks admire the gifts. Maybe Texting is faster, but these are no less wonderful for that. Dreams take wing where the mundane fails
