Brekke's expression as she hears the news doesn't shift; she remains grim. She is sorely tempted to invoke the wyrd and crush the man's writsts. She merely nods, then demands of the captive, "Why."

"it would make me matter, they'd remember my name.. all of them. Only way to make a mark in this world is to take away from it"

For a moment, the banality of it, the idea that the ONLY way to achieve glory is by ignomany, the only way to make a mark is to scratch out an innocent, is so jaded, so twisted with despair that Brekke almost drops him from the chill. But it is not true, she knows it is not! she is a dream of glory achieved by honor, of worth not in removing the weak but in sheltering them so they can grow in their own strenth. And she does not let go.

Her grip shifts momentarily, but does not release...in fact, squeezes a bit tighter in defiance. "I have never found it so," she growls. "You are deluded." A police woman steps out of the car, apparently ahead of her partner, and probably purposely so . She glows with enchanment, revealing signs of troll blood . Already a tall black woman with athletic build under her uniform, the glamour Lut put in her now has put streaks of blue and white in her hair that are only visible to kithain and other enchanted. She is seems still new to enchantment because for a moment, just a moment, she gazes at Frank and Brekke with wonder, but then her eyes lock on the gun, and the gunman under Brekke "Officer T.T. Roberts, I got a tip off from an annoymous source regarding the shooting" She's been warned about the right of ignorance, not to call attention to what she 'sees' now. Good

Brekke nods, still holding the man's wrists. "He was aiming at the pool and the children." She nods over her shoulder in the direction of the pool noises. "They do not seem to have noticed a problem."

"THank god for small favors" She takes out her cuffs and slaps them on the man, wincing at the chill.

"I was supposed to go down fighting, to die denying all..." the man hisses "You've cheated me..."

"No death penalty in New Jersey" Officer TT says, "And normally Id say a pity, but if you want it, maybe it's a good thing you getting life, behind bars with the other worst of the worst. You'll be lucky if you see sunlight , buddy. Now, You have the right to remain silent" she reads the warning, making it official, then when she's done, she says to Brekke "My partner is in the car. He's about to come out to help. Shall I tell him I found him knockedo ut or the like?"

She nods gratefully. "Yes. The less we must be involved, the better. We can depart that way," she says, nodding towards the wooded boundary that separates the developed properties. Hm...what is your name?" she demands of the captive as she retrieves her hatchet and Frank gets his tire tapper.

"Michel Emerson Smith" the guy spits and struggles from the cuffs to no avail.

She looks around sharply at the middle name. A moment's thought, then she nods. She takes a cloth and wipes it roughly against the wound on the man's head; it is not a gesture of comfort. Then she nods to the kinain. "You have done us a boon. It will not be forgotten."

"Pretty sure it will be, Miss" The enchanted woman says with a smile so slight only a troll or troll kin would notice it. "Wish it were under better circumstances. Besides, you've done every parent in the town an even bigger favor. Taking assholes like this and putting them in holes? That's just my duty"

And she says "You two best go, my partner will be done with his call soon"

Mike says "This is a cove r up... a cover up? Who .. who are you working with?" Mike says "Why are you trying to make me seem like a nobody? Caught by luck? Why are you cheating me?"

Brekke nods, looks to Frank, and the two move off (after any parting comments from Frank).

TT says "Smith? It's not your name they'll remember, it's the name of those two children you shot"

Brekke turns and glares. "Tell me the children's names. The media has not shared those."

"We're not supposed to, but for you?" TT says "Danielle Price, and Heath Lawless. She was 9, he was 7. Please keep that among your trusted people"

She then looks at Smith "they are the names this town will remember.Not some pathetic maniac named Smith"

Brekke nods agreement, and turns to go without another word.
