Yule is a time of sights and smells and sounds at the Lodge. The scent of pine drifts from the boughs that decorate the rafters, accentuated by the bright green leaves and red berries of holly sprigs. Beeswax candles burn in all the windows, adding their sweetness to the mix. Other scents drift in from the kitchen...spices and vanilla from mulled cider and cookies. A sturdy pine tree in one corner is decorated with popcorn garlands and ornaments, some made of straw, some of carved wood, some of glass, some of sparkling tin...and some of gingerbread! A gingerbread house is on one of the tables...more of a gingerbread barn, for it is surrounded by an assortment of little gingerbread animals. The balefire burns bright and welcoming and content.
