"Well, I was uninvited, and came for the raid... and then, the jobs fell in my lap, so to speak..." Apologetic.

"Jobs that have enriched environments within my barony. You have done work that has pleased my people. I have no objection to this. And I believe I spoke with you about mural work on the YMCA, when that is possible. You are welcome here, Lady."

"And I am eager to do that work... painting, and kids too? That's everything I could ask."

"I do realize that this barony has more than its fair share of baronesses," she admits. "But I do not sense that any claim to challenge my place. I believe I am correct in this?"

"Certainly not!"

"I am fairly certain that it is not in my da'an to ever sit on a throne, not in this life."

"Hm. Is that what you wish?"

"I... I don't know. I want to.... be useful. Not just some spoiled, pretty thing."

"I am not very useful at Earth Runes, for all that I am..." She trails off and shakes her head. "I'm sorry."

A puzzled look. "I am surprised. Do you do there what you do here? The art?"

"I am regent. I do paint, and I had been going to school... at the hold, I mostly assist the steward with inventory and paperwork. I hold audiences with the commoners when Coradel is unavailable..."

"Though with August a Baron now, as well, and Consort... well, see, too many barons everywhere."

"Ah." She nods. "But as you say, working with children is your desire." Then a thought. "Have you met Count Hemlock?"

"No, I haven't."

A thoughtful frown, not one of disapproval. "I think you should. He also is focused on children's interests. You have heard of Locke & Key toys?"

"I have! Lovely brand.... those are his?"

She nods. "It is his company."

"Much of Rivervale is funded by its proceeds, in fact."

"That I did not know."

"I.. well, you know where I came from. Much of my current comfort and lifestyle is... funded... by the Truthbranches."

A wry grin. "I do not come from money. I have worked to support myself. But I could not be here, could not support others, without the assistance and endorsement from Caer Falken. There is only shame in being funded if you only use it for your own comfort."

Slick feathers, a nod.

"I am beyond grateful - I could not have done so well by Colton without the help. But... well, he's knighted now."

"I do not mean offense, Baroness."

"No, I just... " Melancholy, regretful. "I feel as if I have become one of those useless creatures at Firnost."

A nod. "Colton's knighthood is what made me think you may wish another squire, but it seems the fit is not right."

"Ah. Firnost." A soft snort and she shakes her head.

"I fear that... this boy, in particular... " She frowns. "I worry it is not a good fit."

"I don't know if I could help him."

"That is fair. I will seek another guide for him. Is there anyone in particular at EarthRunes who might wish to have an unusual squire?"

She considers.

"I wonder... Bachdion, perhaps. He is not sidhe, but Fiona."

"And it seems Adam has a satyr friend, already?"

"At least one, yes. And I have met Sir Bachdion." A thoughtful frown. "He...might do well with Adam. If he is willing."

"If, yes."

"It's a lot to ask. Magnus might also be willing - he's Fiona, sidhe, and if anyone has a sense of responsibility and service..."

"I mean, we Liam are a bad influence on him, he's not nearly as wanton as the Lions are inclined."

A slight chuckle. "Scandalous of him. Well, good. I will inquire."

"I could go give him a call?"

"If you would be so kind, that would be appreciated."

She nods. "Let me go now - perhaps we can present Adam with something soon." She rises.

She also stands. "My thanks, Baroness. I will speak to Adam and explain. I do not expect him to take it well, but if I can offer the potential of another guide, that would soften the news, I think." She escorts Sparrow to the door.

"I am sorry..."

"No apology necessary. Thank you for considering, and for telling me your honest thoughts."

An apologetic smile, and Sparrow departs to call her brother.
