Brekke moves into the ring. "Because you discount and disrespect the skills of others, simply because they are not your skills. Your practice here is done for today. We will start again next time, or you may practice at home."

Adam sulks off.

Lucia sighs after he's gone, "I'm sorry, Chieftain . I should have just left when I saw it was you and him"

"No. We were done. I yielded the ring to you. I suggested you work together, but I do not abide that attitude in my training ring, at least not when I am present. You did nothing wrong."

"Your wing work is interesting. Have you had actual combat yet?"

"Yes, Chieftain, on the quest," She says, "And I've practiced since. Sylvi, Gerd and Siv mostly, well, when Siv was here"

And then "I try to see things from Adam's point of view but it's hard when he makes that dig on Cheerleaders." She says "he probably COULD beat me. And , I think I COULD beat him. But he's so...so..." Words fail "Why does he have to turn others into losers for him to be a winner?"

"Mm. I hardly think he is the only teenage boy who has ever done so. More than a few people of other ages and genders do it, as well."

"yes. I.. did I?" She says sure "I felt a bit smug about that touch but I didn't mean to be a jerk if I was?"

"You had a right to be proud of it. You did not mock his realm of skill, nor his stature. I saw no fault in your behavior."

A nod "Thank you, Chieftain. I don't think I'm better than anyone, but I was raised better than that"

"Hm. It is puzzling. His parents do not show such tendencies. But...I believe he will adjust his approach, given time. Now...if you wish to continue, please make good use of the ring. If you wish training, I can offer some, but I must go on patrol soon after."

"I would be honored for any guidance you provided or if you want I can help with patrols? I am no warrior, but I like to help"

"Well...let us spar briefly, then. And yes, then please join me on patrol."

They spar, she is a novice still, but shows promise at improving. And she is attentive.

And soon, they are on patrol. It's clear Lucia wants to be something other than a typical boggan or at least to have that choice.

Brekke has her assist with the patrol, clearing windfall and so on. She does not coddle the girl.

Well, one thing their kiths have in common, neither is afraid of hard work!
