"Well, you guys should worry about your lives. You losers are.. well shit if you get killed I..." For a moment he doesn't know what to say then "I'd miss out on great food like this."

"Yes, that'd be a negative for you. So that's what we call 'enlightened self-interest'...it means you help us because it helps you in the long run. So, it's a deal?"

"Do I get paid?"

She tilts her head. "Dagmar doesn't get paid."

"I get fed?"

"Yeah, but I'm not a knight" He says "or a thane or anything.. don't even have a job title...she's atl east got that"

A quick glance at Dagmar with a hint of...amusement? Then she looks back to Dirk. "Would you like a job title?"

Poke poke poke at the food.

"Can I be... 'The Enforcer'?" Hopeful

"Hmmm." Kerri seems to consider. "Dirk, the Enforcer of Rivervale. I'm not sure. What would you be enforcing, exactly?"

"Well, Defender ain't much redcap...."

"I suppose not."

"The rules..duh"

"Deputy?"

"If we'e going old west, how about Peacemaker or Peace keeper, isn't that like a gun?"

Kerri blinks at that. "Dirk the Peacemaker? I don't know if that would go over well with any of your kithmates that happen through."

"Fuck em... if they don't know classic guns that killed people in the old west forget em"

It's clear this sort of thing is the only part of history class he listens to.

"Could work."

"Well...then I shall ask the Chieftain to grant you that title. If she says yes, it's a deal? You'll do the same work Dagmar does, support the Lodge?"

"Yeah..heck, I'lldo you a freebie.. maybe Iain't smart, but I notice things... like Dagmar aint' eatting. She's bummed, which is weird because with the stable going up she should be thrilled."

Oh, he gets both eyebrows on that one. "I noticed, too, but I wasn't going to call her out." She turns to Dagmar. "You going to be okay?"

"Ain't starving, am I?"

"Can I have your stuff then?" Dirk eyes Dag's plate

A slight chuckle. "True. I'm not worried about you wasting away. But is something wrong?"

Shrug.

And then she passes the plate to Dirk.

He tips and guzzles it down then wipes his lips "Wow. I almost feel not hungry."

"I take that as a great compliment, Dirk, thank you."

"Your food is as good as Tove's." Agreeing.

Kerri blinks at Dagmar. "I...Dagmar, are you sure you're okay?"

"Scool..." he says then to Dagmar, "You're a troll and all honorable. Want me to kick whoever's ass who upset you?I don't have to be fair."

Seems to pour out of him before he realizes he's not asking for pay or a favor or even a title like 'terminator supreme'

"It's no big deal. Just.. stuff. I guess? Jaymes is still out."

"He'll be back. I'm sure he's fine."

"I know that, but, like..." Shrug.

Kerri nods. "I understand. Well...maybe you ought to take Dirk out on his first patrol? Let him see how you do it?"

"Do I gotta stare and grunt a lot?" HE rises

"Oh, I think you'll find your own way of doing it, Dirk. Welcome aboard."

"Yes."

"And practice your eyebrow."

Kerri manages to stay deadpan as she nods. "The eyebrow is the secret password."

"That so makes sense now!"

Grunt, nod.

"Mm." Kerri nods, and in her heart she feels just a wee bit guilty...but not too much. "I'll take care of this. Don't forget to come back and report how it went." She picks up the platter and takes it into the kitchen.

"SUre thing. Lead on , Dagmar. Let's get this thing down" Dirk says

It is at that time that Thane Lut comes in.

"Get your weapon, yeah?"

Dirk looks at him, and raises his eyebrow as he grabs his weapon "Sup."
