Lucia is a boggan wilder, you would think she'd like cooking, she's great at it. But she grumbles under her breath and watches the clock like a hawk. Of course, Sylvi's mom is a great cook so she too had an edge up.

...but when the recipe ingredients are all prepackaged mixes or biscuts that come out of tubes, the Hearth's daughter gets frustrated. "I thought this class was to teach us how to cook," she mutters.

Lucia sighs, "I hear that. My papa would blow a fuse if anyone tried to use this at his restaurant." her dad does run a pretty great Italian place. And Lucia is of that heritage.

Sylvi checks off whatever simplistic step they just completed, and sets the timer as Lucia puts a pan in the oven. "What's the best thing he makes, in your opinion? I mean, I know it's all gotta be amazing, but the best?"

"My dad makes everything amazing, and he's sure I'm destined to follow in his foot steps," She makes gestures as she talks, "It's like he's got it all mapped out. 'But Lucia, we cook, it's a in your blood, in a your soul... ' " imitating her dad, then more seriously "He does make a Tortellini that will make you see angels."

A curious look as she wipes up the countertop. "You don't want to? Cook, I mean?"

((Thunderstorm took out Mr. D's power, scene on hold.))

"Everyone expects boggans to cook, or clean, or maybe make shoes. Well, that's great, but I don't like how it's all I'm expected to be, or even mainly what I'm expected to be"

She grins, passing dishes to her to go into the sink. "My mom says she got a lot of teasing when she was being fos-...taught. She was more interested in the kitchens than the, um, gym."

"Huh, guess the grass is always greener, or bluer on the other side," she sighs "I would love to swing a sword, well maybe not, but smething besides 'boggan stuff'"

Sylvi looks at her. "You could do a sword. Or maybe an axe? Or...bow and arrow?"

"Whose going to give a boggan a sword, or even teach her?" She says, "I mean, if the Chief was a tyrant, sure. I'd be handed a blade and told to go minuteman..err girl, but sadly, we live in benevolent rule" a sort of quirk to her smile to show she knows how silly that all is

"Well...I don't know a lot, but...I could teach you some stuff. Want to come to the Lodge?"

"And we have plenty of practice weapons handy."

"really?" A bit louder than she intended.

"Sylvi, Lucia? is everything okay over there?" Miss Nadel asks

Sylvi glances around. "Yes'm. We're just about to wash up."

"Alright," the teacher says. the two girls usually have it down so she turns to other students who have a harder time, "No Reginald, this is why we butter first."

More quietly, and with the cover of the sound of running water, Sylvi says, "Why not? Would your folks be okay with you coming over?"

"I guess, they probably think I'd be helping your mom though" she says

"So? Let'm think it. And you can help her a bit if you want, if you don't want to lie to your folks. But the training ring is right past the kitchen door...." A wink.

A grin that's very broad indeed, "thanks Sylvi, you're alright"

"Hey, the more of us, the merrier." A smile, and she passes a bowl to be dried.

And things are cleaned up pretty quickly, the bell rings, and as they leave class, Lucia asks, "what about you? Anything you want to be? I know we're still young, but... wilder years mean adventures, and I'm still trying to slip out of the kitchen"

Sylvi's expression goes serious as they head out into the loud school corridor. "I...don't know. I've been thinking about the Lodge roles...and they're all important...but I don't know. I was thinking about being a Rover. I don't know...maybe." A pause. "I'm going to be an envoy this summer, though. Visiting Alaska."

"Alaska? Boy are you going to be eating a lot of Salmon. Why would you go to Alaska?"

"There's a freehold up there," she whispers. "Starbear. I'm going to go up to be like a representative of the Lodge, make connections and stuff." She's clearly very excited about this.

"Hey, that's great," She grins, "Everyone likes you, Sylvi. Well, maybe not Dirk and a few other jerks, but that's why the cheerleading squad is eying you"

She blinks. "They are? Really?" She bites her lip. "What are they saying?"

"Well, that you're athletic enough for the hard work, but also likable enough to get the crowds motivated," she says, "You didn't know? I heard it from Nellie, who heard it from Judy who was in the room when Coach Jackson was talking to her assistant."

It would appear Lucia doesn't resent the gossip part of her kith.

And Sylvi realizes the benefits of having a boggan friend. "Wowww... Cheerleading does look like fun. I don't know...."

"Ha, if I had your body? I'd totally try it, but boggans are what's at best described as 'pear shape', add to that my 'apple face' and I feel like Fruit salad. "

A frown. "That's so not fair. I mean, if you want to try it, you should get to try it. But...yeah, it does tend to be the tall-and-leggy brigade, doesn't it?"

"Oh, I could probably try. But I'd fall on my face. But yeah, not tall and leggy, my fall wouldnt be as far"

"Maybe, but...well, you've seen hip-hop, right? A lot of those dancers are a LOT rounder than you, and with short legs, but they've got attitude. That would be fun."

"I mean, I know it's not cheerleading, but..."

"Huh yeah, but my father would send me to an abbey, an abbey full of nuns that cook, Our lady of the Easter Meal or something'

"Ugh, what is it with Dads? Like we're some kind of little fragile tchotchkes."

"I know. I mean, trust us a little, sheesh. It's not like we're so stupid we're going to just nod our heads at every idiot thing a boy says. Right?"

"Right!" Then a pause. "Right..." And she colors a bit.

"Are you okay?" At the blush

"Well..." She smiles and shrugs. "There's some things I wouldn't mind nodding my head about. But, no, not everything."

"Oh, you have someone? Who? I thought I knew every hook up in the... you know, not that I pry" Ahem

"Ooooh, you know I'm going to ask about what you do know. But...well, there's a guy. Not from here. And...well, he was already calling me his girlfriend, but it just happened too quick, so he doesn't now. But we're still seeing each other sometimes when we can. His 'hold is out in Kansas."

"Wow, he comes all the way from nowhere tos ee you?"

"Then again, if I were stuck in Kansas, I might run to civilization too" A smirk

"Well, there's trods...."

"And Kansas City...well, that's in Missouri really, but...well, it's not, like horse-and-buggy land. And EarthRunes freehold is ritzy!"
