"Argh!" And Samson doesn't like that at all. He backs, front hooves kicking once. She quickly gets him back under control, then glares down the path again. "Claire, can you help Magnus get back? Dolly should behave, but just in case...."

BIC: "I'll be fine," Magnus says "I'm more worried about August. Folks, he follows more than the Seelie Code. He's Liam, and rather devout in his Christianity. He's got more 'thou shalt knots' than a sailor on speed. And we need to respect that as a part of him."

Claire grits her teeth, "I'll handle Magnus.... good luck with yours." To Coradel

"Hmph." Coradel doesn't sound at all convinced. "And that respect is only to go one way? I think not." And she turns and urges Samson into that slow canter again, coaxing Locke along with the reins...neither horse likes the close proximity much, and they're both already jumpy, so there's much head tossing as they go.

Marching with focus and dedication down the trail towards the house.

It doesn't take her long to catch up. "August." She stops and dismounts. "Take your mount's reins, Sir." She holds them out to him.

"I'm not fit to ride right now, thank you." Walking.

"No. We will walk."

Reluctantly, he stops... turns and if she has stopped as well, takes the reins so she can dismount. No eye contact.

((already dismounted)) She hands him the reins, and begin walking, patting Samson's neck absently.

August keeps going.

"You know, Magnus, I like you, and I hoped August would eventually like me, but right now I'm not happy with him." Claire says to Magnus/"He's a good man, one of the best. After several steps, she says tightly, "I do not understand how you can defend the mortals who treated our daughter so shamefully."

"And you are the only one who must be understood?" She stops. "You...you think your forgiveness is somehow better than my fury, than my desire to seek retribution for Deryn?!"

"BECAUSE I COULD HAVE STOPPED THIS!"

He grabs what little control he has. "Because I knew what ... After Memorial Day, I wanted to... She came into Firnost, and I over reacted, and we went to talk at her apartment and in the morning I could see what it was, how she lived, and I thought, well, after I graduate, I ... I could come out here. I could tell her I needed a place to stay, I could get a job, we could split the rent...."

"Claire, I don't suppose you could.. apologize to August and Coradel for..."//"FOR?" her eyes flare.//"Ah, just to help smooth things over?"//"Magnus some days I don't know why I.." A grit of her teeth, "No. No I could not.
