How arey ou?

It was another busy day. My NewBoss has a tendency to fly-by, drop a request, and express confidence in my abilities. I am, of course, congenitally unable to do anything other than "Sure thing, I'm on it!" and then flail internally trying to figure out how to do it.

OTOH, to be fair, he's said repeatedly if I need something I should ask/tell him. So that's on me.

Well uhm,, DID you figure out how to do the latest 'it'?

Or are you still wondering if you should have asked?

I figured out how to start "it." There were two "its" actually, figured both out.

We're about to start a couple of hellish weeks of union action.

Tomorrow, I'm in charge of 95 students and 10 chaperones on a field trip.

Then there's the school paper meeting after that.

Wednesday, it'll be a late night as we protest at the board of ed meeting.

Thursday and Friday, we're staging a walk-out exactly at end of contract time for the day -- nobody staying late at all.

It hurts, but it is a Union Season. You're not alone.

That last one sounds easy, but it's stressful. We're making a scene.

We're getting SO MUCH SUPPORT from other districts all over the state.

Yup. We can't legally strike, so public gestures of support and unified protest actions are about the only tools at our disposal.

Can I/we help somehow?

I honestly don't think so. I don't have much faith in hashtags, and I can't think of any other way you could help than that.

But the thought is appreciated.

Yes. I don't like what the job I found for him is doing to him.

What's the job?

For about 2 years he's been working as, essentially, a porter at the airport. After roughly 8-12 months they bumped him into a technically management spot so he could order supplies, since no one else there had the wherewithal to put together a spreadsheet and figure out how to track consumption to figure out ordering supplies.

But he is on his feet a lot, and comes home drained. I get it; did it for 5 bad years.

So, a job he can do well, but doesn't like?

Ahhh. Yeah. I get that.

He's amazingly (to me) resilient about liking or not liking but physically the job drains him.

I can imagine.

Keep his Resume hot and keep searching while he works this one?
