It's tricky for me. So...does it mean that the more anxious you become about minor incidents, the worse they'll seem?

So, it's from diving, but has been used to model other situations

So - a minor incident, quickly addressed, easy to get back to normal

The image's logic escapes me, because if it's harder to get back out as time goes on, then how is there even an upward climb on the right hand side (especially from "death").

I think the idea makes perfect sense. I just don't think the image is intuitive.
