at SCA meting last night, I got help pinning my old dress to new size

(I have lost, like, 8 inches of bust. It's depressing.)

There's a big event this weekend

and it is a VERY pretty and "patriotic" dress

Glad that you got help with it! I wish you lived by me, I bought a silly dress and it's too big in the shoulders but it's just a whim and not sure if I want to bother with trying to get it tailored

Shoulders can be tough, but often worth it

you also might be able to just pinch, fold, and slip stitch them without taking it apart

Ok, so, technically, this is the Consort's arms

The field (the background) is argent (white/silver) and it has a gules (red) pale, the fat stripe.

A lot of midrealm fighters will wear tabards/surcotes or paint their shieled with just the red & white, because it is easy to see on the field

The idea being, originally, Midrealm was literally the "Middle" - SCA was founded in CA, then moved to the east coast, so West & East were the first two kingdoms. Midrealm was third, and was everything in between.

We've got 20-some kingdoms these days

(Chicago, for the record, was the first Midrealm chapter)

Besides, you know, dragons are cool

The gold crown indicates that it is a set of kingdom/royal arms

with the roses, that is a sign it belongs to the queen

the king, or arms for the kingdom itself would have a laurel wreath instead
